The bottom line is that profit margins for Emirati and other foreign and domestic elites in key commodities like gold, livestock and gum arabic have increased significantly since the war began.

A thread: More than a million Sudanese are involved in artisinal mining in large open-air mining zones across 12 of Sudan’s 18 states working under extremely dangerous conditions. For the UAE, the profit margins from this gold have risen exponentially since the war began. (1/3).

it arrives in the UAE it becomes worth $5000 dollars. If you look at the official statistics, Sudan’s gum arabic exports have decreased since the war started but gum arabic exports in countries like Kenya have risen despite the fact that they produce little gum arabic. (3/3).

The official numbers are that 1 kg costs the foreign buyer 10,000 USD who then sells it at $65,000 but unofficially the margin is much larger. Similarly one unit of gum arabic a commodity used in soft drinks and candy is sold by the Sudanese trader for 120 $ and by the time (2/3.

Every once in a while I get angry at the Sudanese millionaire class esp. those who signed that port deal with the UAE in 2022. They have done nothing for Sudan's civilians during this war re: food + evacuations (at least not that I'm aware of) and set the stage 4 it early on.
