There have been advances but it really feels like after 2010-ish it’s been polish rather than quantum leaps.
That jump from PS2 to PS3 in graphics quality was insane. It happened so fast, games went from looking like cartoons to being able to render characters that actually resemble people in a couple years

I didn’t know Eric Adams was a programmer. But it makes a weird amount of sense.
Just look at the résumés. I’ve learned this city from the bottom up. From paper boy to the Mayor’s office — I’ve worked every rung of the ladder serving New Yorkers. Mamdani has lived on easy street, I’ve lived the grind.

New idea for a startup: Build a Boo. You pick out a body, put on clothes, select personality traits, and then chat with different hearts until you find one you like. Then they box it up for you and you walk out of a store. Niche spin off for programmers: Build a Duck.
Build-a-Bear up >2x since I made my 'long-bear' to play AI in May '24. the margin in AI isn't in the chips, it is in the characters you stick the chips in and get attached to.

Yes and no. You should seek to be top 5% in 5 synergistic skills over being top .1% in one. But being top 5% in 5 skills takes a lot of time and effort. And being top 20% in 20 skills is not nearly as useful.
Tobi Lütke questions "jack of all trades, master of none."..Most should choose range over specialization. You can reach 8/10 in five fields while a specialist focuses on one...The skill of learning gets faster with practice...Generalists > specialists.

Really well put.
@rohanpaul_ai Interesting how they still front-load with design docs. AI isn't replacing thinking, just accelerating implementation.

The four groups with 90+% are WASPs, Appalachians, Irish-Americans, and German-Americans. Someone should make a political compass. No group has below 40% other than recent refugees. This is also X so if anything the poll skews conservative.
Ok. I'm curious enough about this "heritage" debate that we are going to do some polling. Honestly and anonymously, do you see the groups below as "real Americans?". 1st group: Italian Americans.

The implications are, aiui, if you're a VC then following consensus is a much more difficult path to win. If you're raising VC then following consensus is a much easier path to win. At least if you define winning as raising.
“We find that consensus entrants are less viable, while non-consensus entrants are more likely to prosper. Non-consensus entrepreneurs who buck the trends are most likely to stay in the market, receive funding, and ultimately go public.”. (source: “The Non-consensus Entrepreneur:

Big O is the most immediately useful form of basic algorithmic analysis.
✨ Big O ✨. Let me take you on a visual introduction to what big O notation is in my new blog post: With big O notation you can better understand how algorithms will perform, finding orders of magnitude improvements with very simple changes to your code
