People keep guessing how much #GraphQL is actually used, which I think is natural for every interesting technology. But hard numbers are extremely rare to find, so here is some background and never shared before statistics (1/n).

That means the downloads doubled the last 12 months and the unique IPs increased more than 25 times in the last 4 years. I hope that helps a bit to understand the industry wide growth and adoption of #GraphQL. (5/n).

So here are some hard numbers of GraphQL Java's adoption: In Sep 2018 the unique IPs downloads per month were less than 10k. In Sep 2022 it was 250k+. Additionally the downloads (not unique IPs, just downloads) more than doubled in the last 12 month to over 900k (4/n).

Now Java is the most conservative of the "big" language ecosystem (JS, ruby, python . ) so adoption of any new technology is slower, but also probably more sustainable. So any Java adoption is at least a good indication of an overall longterm trend (3/n).

Some background why I believe these matter: I started @graphql_java the day #GraphQL was open sourced (Mid 2015). The first release was less than three weeks after. It was always the only GraphQL implementation in Java and every Java based GraphQL execution is using it (2/n).
