Put my Ss in random groups & tasked them with figuring out sig figs today! . Each group got a stack of cards. Each had a # on one side & its correct sig fig count on the other. Ss were to use their cards to come up with general rules for which digits “count” as significant.

How I started science class this morning. The goal was to eventually bring them to an understanding of physical vs. chemical properties. However, making the categories completely open-ended left room for some GREAT alternative ideas & thoughts from students!

Reviewed fractions with my 9’s this week by having them create their own @FractionTalks. These were my favourites!

When you’re using someone else’s classroom for your Grade 9 math and when you walk in for the first time they already have the desks arranged in pods 🤩😭

However, I have 4 courses to prep for the fall & I’m going to 5 countries this summer, so I have little time to do it. My solution? Downloading countless docs & spreadsheets onto my phone to make the best use of my time in the sky! . I call it air-planning. I’m so sorry.

Review day!. 1. Create a trig question. 2. Find the solution. 3. Describe 3 distinct ways that somebody might do this question wrong. Heavily inspired by “What’s My Favourite Mistake?” from somewhere. I just know it was in my brain & I didn’t think of it 🤷🏻‍♀️. Anyway, my faves:

Armed with protractors & rulers, they set out to build their triangles 📐. Very happy with the # of Ss who picked up on & were able to describe the patterns they saw. Less happy that it didn’t occur to me to take pictures of their thinking!.

How I introduced the tangent ratio to my grade 10’s today. Backside includes the same prompt, but with 45 degrees & different side length pairs, some of which were a 1:1 ratio.
