Very happy to run into the coolest Tanzanian professional I know, former Tz CAG Prof Mussa Assad at JKIA NAIROBI this evening. May Allah continue to guide you inshaallah.
I used a Casio FX-502P in my 2nd year of engineering school 37 years ago. Was surprised to find my former German classmate still has his, looking new and still working on its original battery all these years later! Amazing combination of Japanese technology and German caretaking
Matze and I started college together 37 years ago. Last year we celebrated my 60th birthday in Zanzibar and tonight we celebrate his wife Helga’s 60th in Altensteig Germany. Passage of time is inevitable but what we do with it is within our control
Listen to your body carefully every morning. Give it what it needs. Health is the most important asset man can possess, don’t take it for granted. Make sure every day is lived meaningfully, because it comes only once in your lifetime.
I have a philosophy I live by which goes: “every problem must have a solution and if it doesn’t, then it is not a problem but a condition to be tolerated or ignored... Life must go on and every minute must count”. Your thoughts?
Imagine if we could think differently about Africa’s development. Imagine if could see skill (and not money) as our single biggest problem and attend to it before everything else? Imagine!
Africa is a country! The borders that divide us are unnatural, the differences are more imagined than real. It is only our exploiters and the narrow-minded African elites who argue otherwise. Do you agree?
Feeling mightily blessed to celebrate this day, my 61st birthday with my IIG HQ team, who between them have given 58 years of their young lives and endured countless challenges to contribute to our group's success. God bless you and thank you🙏🏿
Pleased to meet
@JosephMbilinyi
on the grounds of parliament yesterday. Our young people are leading with courage and innovative ideas. Sugu is one such leader👍👍
Everybody wants to be self-made but the reality is we are all made. We just need to have the humility and presence of mind to remember that at all times
Three generations 75 years apart. My auntie Erica is 86 years old, her brother (my uncle) Governor is 91 years old and my son Tegegne is 16 years old. Auntie Erica is the funniest person I know
Mr. Mengi personified the private sector struggle in Tanzania more than anybody else during the last fourty years. He succeeded where many failed. He led by example to the very end.
He made history by launching the first TV station on mainland Tanzania
The trouble with charitable giving lies in tax laws that make philanthropy a tax-deductible expense. Billionaires now use philanthropy to minimize their tax exposure while pretending to be kind-hearted angels. Best philanthropy is to pay your fair share of tax.

The popular narrative is that Chinese corporations are state-backed and this is largely true. What we don’t hear however is that western corporations such as Apple, Cisco, Google, Siemens, AT&T, Boeing, etc are state backed too. Think, always.
On this day we remember a great man.
One who stood for the unity and prosperity of Africa, our emancipation from those who wish to break us and for the rise of the African continent and her people.
A husband, a father and a Pan-Africanist. 🤍🤲🏾
You probably know that Africa is the biggest island in the world, surrounded by four oceans. Did you know that 95% of Africa’s trade is maritime? Did you know that Africa owns under 1% of the ships plying its coastlines?
If the measure of human dignity is wealth as Trump thinks, then he doesn’t know the world’s richest man in all of human history is a black man. Musa Keita aka Mansa Musa who ruled the Mali Empire during the 15th century is estimated at $400bn.
@Trevornoah
Just imagine if the French had lost to Croatia. The French coach would have been sacked for fielding too many African players. The black players would have bananas thrown at them. Now that they have won however, they are 110% French🙄. Hypocrisy and racism at its worst.
If it is true that China is several years ahead of the West in 5G/AI technology, how can China be accused of stealing technology from the West that the West doesn’t have? Somebody help me please!
The Chinese gift to the AU, a HQ building in Addis, is beautiful but hugely inappropriate. No nation in human history had its seat of government donated by outsiders no matter how friendly. AU HQ is a seat of 55 African governments. Let’s correct this catastrophic mistake now!
Just listened to a khutba (sermon) by a Ugandan Muslim scholar in Toronto. My fav takeaway:”we must teach our children as they grow up the difference between their rights and doing the right thing; the latter is more important than the former, always”
Best message of the day, or maybe of his presidency so far: “....hakuna nchi inaweza kuendelea bila sekta binafsi, hakunaa..” President Magufuli at his town-hall meeting with Tanzanian business community representatives earlier today.
2 years ago we started rebuilding teachers’ houses at my childhood primary school (Katerero) in Bukoba. Yesterday we delivered solar home kits for the houses, headmistress’s office and staff room thanks to

Wishing my twitter family a blessed 2019. May you be successful in all that you seek inshallah. And remember to make every minute of this year count. God bless.
October 2019 will go down in history as a time of extraordinary performance by black people in diverse fields of human endeavor. And of course

In his passing, Tanzania’s business community has lost its brightest shining light, an inspirational leader and most importantly, a good man.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mengi’s family and loved ones.

Can someone explain the cyclones that are now sweeping across our lands at a rate of one every month? I have lived here for a long time but don’t remember seeing so many violent cyclones in such a short span of time. Climate change?
Rural folk with no engineering degrees know how to let rain water flow harmlessly through villages, but in our cities, with armies of engineers, planners and billions of $ of infrastructure, five minutes of rain wreak unspeakable havoc & take lives almost every time. Why?
The late Ephraim Kibonde who passed away early this morning worked for Infotech Group during the early days of his career. We will sorely miss his wisdom, friendship and kindness of spirit. May his soul R.I.P inshaallah

We (Africans) should welcome the rise of China. BRI offers an alternative development path from the one imposed by colonialism and globalization. The new path has risks of its own but we are in a better negotiating position. Our opinion matters for the first time in human history
In 2000, I sat down with 5 colleagues to brainstorm on improving Tanzania’s business environment. In 2003, I became chairman of the CEO Roundtable. On 2 Dec 2017, I stepped down after an eventful and fulfilling journey of discovery and construction. Grateful for what we achieved.
Tanzania and Burundi defy threats and vote to support UN resolution rejecting Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Israeli capital. Other EAC states missing in action, sadly.

If the US-China tech wars continue to their logical conclusion, I predict a future where we will be carrying two phones, one using US and the other Chinese technology and we will do just fine because I am already using two phones, one IOS and another Android

Imagine if we stopped talking about financial inclusion and focused on wealth creation instead. The only way to bank the unbanked is through debt-trapping schemes that make the poor even poorer. Wealth creation requires individuals to be productive first before they borrow
The Mali Empire under Mansa Musa’s rule was the epi-centre of global commerce, scientific innovation, art and intellectual discourse. No single person or family has ever acquired so much wealth or achieved the levels of imperial success comparable to Mansa Musa’s

The Mandela Centenary lecture by Obama has just ended at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The guy is as inspiring as ever if not more so. Worth going without sleep for almost 40 hours in order to catch the live experience.
Remember the Y2K crisis? We prepared for it but it never came. However the 5G fight that has pitted the world’s 2 biggest superpowers against each other in a race to control the world in the 21st century is very real. African countries better be ready this time

Lakini matajiri wengi duniani kote walipitia kipindi cha kuajiriwa na hawakusahau ndoto zao. Ni kosa kubwa kulinganisha mshahara na rushwa au kufananisha ajira ya hiari na utumwa.
Looking forward to attending the launch events of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area in Kigali 18-21 March 2018. A big step forward but still more work to be done. Trade is good only if you are genuine participant. Africa must industrialize and manufacture.
Thank you

This had me thinking. The solution to racism it seems is for the Black man to love himself and other black people more instead of complaining about how other people are racist towards him. People are not racist by nature, they simply love their own most, which is natural.
What we think is what we eventually do. How we think shapes how we act. Our imagination today determines the shape of our future tomorrow. Imagine if we thought less “financial inclusion” and more “financial freedom”? Imagine
I sat down with this great son of Africa and global icon exactly one month ago in Johannesburg. Little did I know it would be the last time. May his souls Rest In Peace.

Africa, let’s turn the “too many mouths to feed problem” into an “just the hands we need to do the work” advantage. Nothing can stand in the way of our rise if we embrace work, hard work.
