Thankful for such an incredible mentor for my girl! 🥰🥎
THIS is part of my “why”! Mentoring Ayla, 11 from Georgia, has been a highlight of my year. Ayla driving through Columbus + a little winter break time together = very full heart 🤍 Mentoring her this fall has been such a gift. So proud of her always. See you soon!

Led my first county PL session today and it was great! I had the best group of 3rd grade teachers to present ELA to and enjoyed their positivity and collaboration! Thank you to @MtnViewES @davistigers87 @TrittSTEAM and @GarrisonMillES #EngageCobb @COBB_ELA

I spoke with a policy leader whose wife teaches HS English. "She keeps saying that suddenly, the kids she teaches can't read. They can't finish novels. Are you hearing that?" Me: YES. Don't miss this reading stamina piece, by @Stephen_Sawchuk: https://t.co/7945MA9Mtw

Building stamina—the attention span and endurance to read texts for sustained periods—is critical to support reading comprehension.

The excellent curriculum is not the solution. The excellent curriculum at the heart of an academically-focused, fully aligned system is the solution.
Half-hearted, inconsistent implementation of Science of Reading-aligned curricula with poor leadership and inadequate planning time is NOT the answer to the reading crisis. Just like defending methods that don't support the greatest number of kids in regular class instruction...

The Knowledge Matters Campaign recommends 8 ELA curricula for their knowledge-building virtues. They are not the same as the curricula that are ✅✅✅ on EdReports. 🤔👀

This practice makes my head spin. This year, for example in quarter 2 alone, the report card has EIGHTEEN different ELA standards to give an individual grade for in 3rd grade. How is this valid and accurate? 🤯
