An Australian-style ban on social media for under-16s may not be currently planned in the UK, but it's an issue that won't go away. This week, I've written about why this is such a tricky area for policymakers, and why it's the moral debate of our times.

Today's the day: Australia's divisive, optimistic, slightly rickety experiment in banning social media for under-16s has come into force. I have some doubts about it but I sincerely hope it goes well. You can read more of my thoughts in last week's edition of UK 2.0

New from me in @pressgazette: A former Cycling News editor has co-founded an AI-powered publishing platform. He knows AI faces scepticism in the industry. “The key thing is that journalists are the ones that take ownership of how automation happens”.

The structure of the Ise Shrine in Japan is rebuilt every 20 years, in line with the Shinto concept of tokowaka: perpetual newness. But the building is not the only thing that is renewed. It’s the skills needed to make it. “By rebuilding it every 20 years, the people that built

Reminds me of the Sony Bravia 'bouncy balls' ad. The fact that it was all done IRL made it so much more appealing.

The thing that seems difficult to crack, when people talk about AI and children, is values. A world where human-made work is "cherished" sounds great, but what's the process for how that feeling is created?
