this thread aims to prove the restaurant staff are idiots but if you weren’t obsessed with being condescending you might notice a perfectly reasonable explanation compatible with everything said: cost of the bacon went up but they haven’t reprinted the menus yet.
Went to a new burger joint. Cheeseburger: $10.Bacon cheeseburger: $12. Order bacon cheeseburger. Waitress: “FYI, bacon is extra”. “Well, yeah, it costs $2 more”. “No, there’s an upcharge”. She says getting bacon on a bacon cheeseburger is an extra $2.50 on top of the price. 1/4.

i very firmly believe this bc i can mark the exact moment when i became a different person because of extreme abuse. a certain kind of person thinks life can't ever get *too* bad. another kind of person knows that it can get infinitely bad. i went from the first to the second.
People who haven’t really truly suffered don’t know certain things. This can make them jerks to people who have suffered. They end up victim-blaming. They don’t want to “catch” the mental illness, or be bummed out by being around it, or other weird reactions I’ve seen.

u should buy book, or just read the PDF when it drops. nobody has influenced my politics and philosophy more than Gillis.
Hey, I wrote a book. Did The Science Wars Take Place?. Covers the history and philosophy of a fight in the 80s & 90s between some postmodernists and scientists, with an eye to anarchist interests and lasting influences on the far-right. Pre-order here:.

discourse over on the sky site has got me thinking of this, the turning point for my interest in and relationship to AI tools. i wish more people were willing to ask this question, and not just insist everyone who thinks AI is useful for some things is themselves hallucinating.
i’m very weirded out by how much of a schism there is between people who apparently think LLMs are going great, doing useful things routinely, and people (me included) who keep trying it and keep getting lied to. can anyone actually explain the schism, while assuming good faith.

My 'of course i’m qualified to interpret primary sources’ shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.
People don’t understand the degree to which their perception of reality is shaped by 115-IQ midwit skeptic wikipedia power editors . Remote viewing is STILL listed as a ‘pseudoscientific hoax’ even after CIA declassified+released literally thousands of pages of documents saying.
