Swing by the Fuse booth at the Solana Science Fair. We’ve got merch, goodies, and a whole lot of energy. Let’s talk about the grid, the future, and how we’re powering the world.⚡️

Tomorrow’s winners will be the most flexible systems—able to ride through shocks and restart fast. Volatile grids need active management and those who can respond will reap the rewards.

Yesterday’s Spain-Portugal blackout was shocking (and the scrambling for answers continues). Yet the UK lived through a smaller-scale version in 2019. Setting the two side-by-side gives some lessons on what might have happened yesterday (disclaimer: i'm speculating here 😇):

Definitely feels like there’s a grid operator mistake here, even allowing for a freak weather event

UPDATE: Spain / Portugal blackout. Spanish grid operators says it has restored 99% of the power. Still, silence about the causes of the worst blackout in living memory in Europe, which affected > 55 million people across mostly two countries and lasted more than half-a-day.

Crazy how there’s still so much shock when this is explained - no party will touch zonal pricing and have a reasonable debate on it, leaving tabloid headlines to fill the void

"It's gas." @MLiebreich explains how gas sets the price of energy in the UK power market 98% of the time to @TiceRichard on @LBC –– more than any other major economy. @IainDale | @AdrianRamsay | @tessakhan | #crossquestion

🇩🇪 Germany shut down nuclear. 🇫🇷 France kept nuclear. Now: 🇩🇪 Germany buys nuclear from France. 🇫🇷 France has some of the lowest emissions in Europe. 🇫🇷 FRANCE: 38g CO₂/kWh 🟢 🇩🇪 GERMANY: 411g CO₂/kWh 🔴 Nuclear isn't the problem. Bad energy policy is.

We are building the whole energy stack from scratch, including a Virtual Power Plant on @solana. If you believe energy should be back in the hands of the people, come help us build it. The future of energy is decentralized. Let’s make it happen.

They looked at the energy industry and saw a broken system. So @alanchanguk and @chrlsorr rebuilt it — from EVs to the smart devices on your wall. Fuse is a virtual power plant putting energy back in the hands of the people. This is DePIN on Solana.

Great to see some debate around the recent work we’ve done on nuclear. I wanted to directly address some of the comments in @jackwiseman_ 's thread and go a little deeper on our thinking. (warning: significantly less punchy thread than @alanchanguk's incoming)

This is an important thread on the headwinds to nuclear from one of the UK's most promising energy startups. There are some points where I think if you frame things differently, you get a different conclusion; and after that, almost all of the issues cited are downstream of

70% of U.S. power lines are past their expiration date. Built for the 1950s, failing in the 2020s. Power failures are becoming more common, more expensive, and more dangerous. It’s time for an internet of energy—not an aging monopoly.

UK's reluctance to invest in gas infrastructure (storage etc) because 'everything will eventually be renewable electricity' is like refusing to build roads because we'll eventually have flying cars. Gas will be around for a while tbh
