Was gonna tweet about how naive effective altruism probably doesn’t let you have kids because it’s not cost effective or has too high opportunity cost or something and then realised that it was just me being mad at my own dumb strawman

It's actually really fucking cool to live at the EA Hotel where most people are rationalists who haven't heard of e.g. fetters, stream entry etc and then to open up twitter and boom here are brand-new tweets about these things. Feels so great to have access to this community

I told my life story to someone recently (at his request) and he said "sounds pretty cool man, what would you rate it?" and I said "10/10" with a giant grin, this has been a huge turning point for me. My old grievance-based narrative was so anti-helpful, insane power in this

This project has started to turn into a @catehall -style "I am incredibly lucky" meta-reframe and holy shit, if I install these beliefs, incredibly life-changing stuff could result 👀👀

Very very interesting living in a rationalist space as a post-rat, it feels like I have to keep lots of stuff locked up because it'll just be illegible/ridiculed/won't connect etc. Feels incredibly enlivening when a post-rat person visits, someone recently did & it was so lovely

I've been reading Jed McKenna's "Enlightenment Trilogy" (just finished book 2) and MAN I am so bowled over by it. Very very well written, feels very wise and complete. The question at the moment is "do I want to aim for enlightenment" (probably not? very alienating? idk?)

I need to get back into tweeting! I'm now volunteering at the Effective Altruism hotel and tweeting about the experience feels kinda icky so I've been silent for a while, unsure how to navigate this (as guests could read my tweets innit)

similarly, every act of intellectualization reinforces intellectualization as a strategy, and consecrates the feeling of insight as the goal instead of change

Ooh, this slaps re: the whole "everyone I coach is under the false impression that if they think hard enough, they'll figure out the perfect recipe/plan which will resolve all their problems forever" thing

the second one is this: for SEVEN YEARS i've been trying to solve a problem like it is an epistemic/cognitive/decisional problem. like there is a Right Answer to a Decision and that it is EXTREMELY important, like, nigh life-or-death, the difference between a Good Life and a
