Yes, “genetic privilege” is now part of the vernacular - those with “genetic privilege” are not obligated to screen, but those who are NOT privileged ARE, it seems. If they do not take steps to prevent a preventable harm, they’re cruel.
@lymanstoneky And there's a little jiujitsu as she tries to dismiss objectors as "privileged" . "I think that if you have enormous genetic privilege and for you to roll the dice and to get an outcome that isn’t going to lead to diseases is in the cards for you. ".

This insinuates that those who do not genetically screen embryos are doing their children a disservice. Her language (and logic) is dangerous. There will soon be cultural pressure to take such measures even against people’s moral objections.
What if your baby never walks? What if they are never able to live independently?. What if you could have stopped it….but chose not to?. That’s the question @OrchidInc’s embryo screening forces. You optimize everything… career, diet, skincare… but you’re going to chance it on

Powerful words by @beatrixscudeler - as a mother with a rare condition that renders my pregnancies medically complicated, I’m deeply moved by her point that deliberately dodging suffering also means denying ourselves opportunities for unanticipated joy.

Whether we should optimize health in parents is a moral question for our time.

Thanks for resharing this @Plough.
