In this new publication in Applied Linguistics, I connect the dots between influencer culture, self-branding, and language ideologies and raising important questions about the future of language education in the platformized ELT ecosystem.

What does it mean when teachers also become brands? How do language ideologies get packaged multimodally and circulated in a 30-second Reel? What are the implications at the nexus of ELT professionals and linguistic hierarchies?

Here’s to resisting the pull of the Academic Olympics, and instead, to being kind, curious, and humble scholars: asking big questions, sparking ideas, building community, and yes, launching more caffeinated projects… #Peace!
