One helpful way to know if a bit of news is a *bombshell* : If the people heralding it refer to actual facts that the news revealed it might be a bombshell. IF the heralds use big, vague adjectives: "Biggest. Huge" But point to nothing it's NOT a bombshell. It's nothing.
