Our family does “themes” for Christmas gifts Pick a theme and let the others in the family pool funds together + select a couple items that meet the theme - can decide how much to spend - not just “here’s what i want, buy it for me” - collaborative in the giving spirit
does anyone else have a family that kinda quietly stopped doing gifts because everything grew in price until it exceeded the common definitions of a reasonable gift ($25-35) at this point I just try to find candy/treats that meet their ever increasing dietary restrictions

a powerful, but small habit: always compliment strangers (and friends!) on tasteful clothing choices first, it’s a nice gesture when done genuinely second, it’s a great way to break the ice or open a conversation third, chances are this person put thought and effort into

And this isn’t even mentioning how things just get missed! I’m also surprised at how many brand name funds get teasers / CIMs and it just never gets taken to IC (then they get upset when they see one of their peers get it)

One would think that every fund who gets a CIM has an equal shot on it, but it’s often the funds who already know the space air tight that can bid higher and win because they know more about the value creation levers than all the other funds

I don’t have the context of having worked in PE (let alone for multiple fund cycles) but one thing I have learned in software IB: It’s surprising how many times the fund who wins the deal already knew the seller
FWIW, I don't think sourcing is a real differentiator. It is all about your ability to be a better owner and really provide the right governance and operational assets for your portcos.

this is the correct way to find a job in 2025 actually it’s been the correct way to find a job since probably ~2015 when a resume alone couldn’t provide context on you as a candidate

really good @tbpn podcast with @jacksondahl. becoming obvious how much consideration they’ve put into it I feel like this time last year Turpentine was the best tech media idea. I know Erik works for a16z now, but did that niche-by-niche podcast network actually work? or

the problem with this is assuming traveling to a certain amount of countries should be a bucket list item
> Met a guy in his mid-20s. > Traveled 25+ countries. > Made solid money. > Finished his whole bucket list. And now he says he feels nothing left to live for. Did everything he dreamed of… and feels suicidal now. Ughh ever evolving purpose in life is so damn necessary.

the guy at sf hardware on divis is honestly so helpful
Go to a local hardware store like this, with an old man who owns the place, and has done the same project a half dozen times. Do not go to Home Depot and expect some random employee in the latest in a long line of retail jobs to know the answers. Trust me on this.
