We're very excited to introduce Phoenix, a 2nd generation Lightning Wallet. 🚀
Phoenix demonstrates what we think is the future of Bitcoin/Lightning UX.

Recent announcements from US authorities cast a doubt on whether self-custodial wallet providers, Lightning service providers, or even Lightning nodes could be considered Money Services Businesses and be regulated as such.
⚡️Eclair *Mobile* 0.3.14 is out⚡️
New features:
- lightweight background sync mechanism
- custom Electrum server support
Reception of funds over Lightning will be enabled in 2019 🎉
Eclair 0.3 ⚡️ is out!
This is a major release with a lot of features and improvements:
- new API
- tor
- auto backup
- plugins
- bitcoin core 0.17+
- and more!

We are very proud to support
@BtcpayServer
, one of the best projects in the space.
They demonstrate that you can be both self-custodial *and* user friendly!
Keep up the great work! 👏👏👏
We just released a new version of Eclair Wallet (0.2.4), our Android ⚡️ Lightning wallet.
#bitcoin
#LightningNetwork
It includes new features (custom fees, import wallet, pin protection, ...) and numerous improvements and bugfixes.
How much on-chain efficiency does Lightning actually bring today?
Our most used channel ever has processed... 17108 payments before it was closed.
That's close to a 10000x reduction in on-chain footprint. Pretty nice efficiency gain!
A WooCommerce plugin is now available for our Strike Lightning API. Set up Lightning payments in minutes on your online store:
More to come, stay tuned!

Effective April 1st 2022, the ACINQ Lightning node will use negative routing fees in order to match the ECB's interest rates.
We hope this move will further establish Europe 🇪🇺 as a key player and thought leader in Bitcoin.

On May 3rd, 2024,
@PhoenixWallet
will be removed from US app stores.
Users from the US should empty their wallet:
- Settings > Close channels (Android)
- Settings > Drain wallet (iOS)
We highly recommend *not force-closing* channels, as on-chain fees could be significant.
After months of work, our research team has finally come up with a better way of embedding Lightning invoices in tweets!
We're immediately submitting this groundbreaking work to the LN spec, as BOLT 41.

Indeed, e.g. all channels created with Eclair Wallet on Android since the beginning are private and don't show up on explorers. There are thousands of them!
As protocol developers and operators of the largest node in the network with skin in the game, we agree with this analysis: the recently reported vulnerability is real, but its severity has been overstated
Eclair v0.9.0 is out, time to upgrade your node!
Highlights:
- improvements against various forms of DoS attacks
- more plugin hooks and RPCs
- groundwork for dual funding, splicing and Bolt 12
Full release notes:

#LightningNetwork
Eclair 0.7.0 is out!
- anchor outputs enabled by default
- support for onion messages (req for BOLT 12)
- postgres suport production-ready
- few bug fixes and many new small features
Last friday we have merged Tor support into eclair (thanks rorp!)
Our mainnet Lightning node is now accessible at:

PSA: Eclair Mobile is now in end-of-life mode.
We recommend switching to
@PhoenixWallet
, a next generation cross-platform Lightning wallet with better UX.

Attention LND node operators: upgrading to LND 0.14.0-beta breaks compatibility with BOLT compliant nodes (eclair, c-lightning etc). We recommend waiting for a patch
Eclair v0.2-beta6 (for desktop/server) has been released, with many important improvements and new features.
Upgrade is recommended (and while you are at it, don't forget to upgrade Bitcoin Core to 0.16.3 ✌️)
Phoenix is packed with new features that solve many of current UX challenges with Lightning:
- simple streamlined onboarding
- no channel management
- unified balance, transparent onchain/offchain payments
- simple seed-based backup/restore
- still non-custodial!
Sure! It's easy: Eclair Mobile is a very popular LN wallet, and is non-custodial. Your keys, your Bitcoins.
Custodial wallets are convenient, until they censor your transactions or get hacked.
Want to educate Roger,
@acinq_co
?
AFAIK, the Eclair mobile wallet for Android (one of the most popular) is non custodial - in that you control your own keys
Roger is badly informed (or deliberately ignorant) about Lightning
Eclair v0.10.0 is out, with a lot of goodies! Main highlights:
- Official support for dual-funding
- Splicing prototype
- Bolt 12 up-to-date with latest spec

Time to update your lightning node ⚡️
#Bitcoin
#LightningNetwork
If this was just a random joe's newletter we would ignore as mostly misinformed. We mainly know
@alexbosworth
for his BOS score, an "opaque" proprietary scoring system where the ACINQ node appears to be blacklisted. AFAWK he never contributed anything to the LN specs.
So
@alexbosworth
doesn't understand the Lightning Spec process. I thought Lightning Labs had been so quiet in the last two years because (1)
@roasbeef
is the only one there who's allowed to do spec stuff (2) profitability lead them to pivot to proprietary centralized offerings.
In 2023, the ACINQ node will turn 5 years old.

Great report from
@ArcaneResearch
However the excerpt below is inaccurate. Neither is LND the reference implementation, nor is
@Lightning
Labs maintaining the BOLTs repository. The LN specification is a community effort, in which Lightning Labs is one of the actors.
NEW REPORT: The State of Lightning⚡️
The State of Lightning provides the most comprehensive overview of usage on the Lightning Network seen to date.

Today Lightning is small enough to fly under the radar but make no mistake, as it grows, the no-KYC free lunch will come to an end. We work on non-custodial solutions, not because we like complexity, but because it will be needed in the future
For the lucky ones who got a ticket to the Lightning Conference in Berlin
@LNconf
, come talk to us! 👋
We'll be happy to explain how this works and do a live demo
In less than 3 minutes in the video above we are able to:
- set up the wallet
- receive money
- make onchain and offchain payments
- and do a full backup restore
Eclair 0.4.1 is out with lots of goodies 🎉
🗺️ improved path-finding algorithm
✂️ brand new flow-inspired MPP split algorithm
💾 support for
@PostgreSQL
db (beta)
🆘 support for static remote key
〽️ better on-chain fee management
We just discovered that we may have lost the signing key allowing us to update the app
Note: key isn't compromised, just was accidentally deleted and isn't recoverable
Remember a channel requires two on-chain transactions: for opening and closing.
The second most used channel has processed 16592 payments and counting. It is still open!
Hey
@krakenfx
👋, what is the reason for not allowing amount-less invoices for Lightning withdrawals?
They are safe since "payment secrets", which are mandatory and supported by all implementations.
A vulnerability has been found and fixed in various LN projects, including Eclair.
Please upgrade to Eclair 0.3.1 / Eclair Mobile 0.4.7+ ASAP.
Congrats to
@rusty_twit
for discovering the issue 👏
🎉Eclair has just passed 1k ⭐️ on Github, thank you all!
Eclair is an implementation of Lightning focused on reliability and scalability, it powers the largest node in the
#LightningNetwork
.
We’ve got the team. We’ve got the mission. We’ve got hit or miss tweets. And now it’s time to talk about what we’re building: Introducing the Lightning Development Kit, or LDK. ⚡️
Eclair 0.5.0 is out, with must have features for running a Lightning node at scale:
- cluster mode
- blockchain watchdog to detect eclipse attacks
- seed segregation
- per-node feerate tolerance
- plugins improvements
Eclair 0.6.2 has been released.⚠️ Upgrade recommended
Includes many improvements:
- beta support for anchor outputs
- better path-finding (+ optional AB-testing)
- tor for blockchain watchdogs
- lower dust limit thresholds
And a fix for CVE-2021-41591.
Eclair 0.5.1 is out, with many improvements and bug fixes:
- Improved startup performance
- Improved bandwidth usage
- Progress on anchor outputs (RBF and CPFP)
- and more!
As usual, it's fully compatible with previous eclair versions.
Nice set of goals for a great wallet
@StopAndDecrypt
. We believe Eclair Mobile fares honorably against those requirements, and we'll check more items in the coming months.
Eclair 0.6.0 is out:
- Mandatory payment secrets
- Improved detection of stale blocks
- Improved Postgres support
- Support for future segwit versions
- and more!
As usual, it's fully compatible with previous eclair versions.
The amazing
@MrKukks
improved our lightning network abstraction layer
It now supports
@acinq_co
's Eclair! Soon available on BTCPayServer. (if you have enough RAM... initial tests show 600MB consumption on regtest :p)
(3) how much of lnd market share is due to the name squatting on twitter/github and the constant confusion between Lightning and Lightning Labs? 💯with Rusty there.
Lightning Labs has claimed ownership of the Lightning network in many ways: I've been reluctant to call them out in public. But the lightning network and community deserves better.
They didn't implement it first, they didn't implement it best. Their community is great though!
This version also supports an advanced routing sync mechanism which enables a very fast payment experience while keeping route calculation on-device.
Check the video: your wallet is synced and ready to make a payment as soon as it starts
Eclair is actually a pretty decent node implementation.
- Low on features, but robust
- Runs on most platforms
- Good API support and documentation
- Great event support
Application developers should be paying more attention to it IMO.
@woonomic
Lightning uses source routing, meaning that the sender chooses the route, using whatever algorithm she wishes, minimizing or maximizing any parameter she wants.
@aantonop
@roasbeef
@renepickhardt
Congrats on the release of Mastering the LN 👏 However Eclair Mobile and
@PhoenixWallet
are miscategorized: they both run an actual Lightning Node and make it easy to point to your own Bitcoin Core through Electrum.
[controls x% of] Lightning Network's *public* capacity. 👌
#FTFY
Probably more like 20-25% of the actual Lightning Network's capacity, impossible to tell.
Also you only control the funds on your side of channels. Could be 10-15%.
Congratulations
@ACINQ_co
for releasing their mainnet wallet with
#LightningNetwork
support. I've been using the testnet release for quite some time, and I can tell it's currently the best
#Bitcoin
wallet for Android. Give it a try!
@acinq_co
builds a complicated piece of software, upon the Bitcoin protocol.
Dominique Padiou will explain to us what and why made them choose
#Kotlin
/Multiplatform to address their problem.
