ABC News has now fully taken down the old 538 archives, including all interactive projects since 2014. Aside from erasing history this prevents access to publicly released data, including polls/models and all story data. Totally unacceptable and a real betrayal of the public

Not sure what's next for me. I'm going to take some time off but then will be looking for ways to stay in political journalism. In the meantime, please hire my fantastic colleagues, and stay in touch by signing up for my newsletter:

Incredibly sad to report that ABC News is indeed eliminating 538. I count myself incredibly lucky to have worked with such incredibly smart, kind people for 7 years. Thank you all for coming along for the ride.

Iāve spent almost 3 years at 538 (started Pi Day 2022!), and sad to say that I and the rest of the team have been laid off. Itās been such a journey. Iām grateful that I got to work with and learn from so many talented, kind, intelligent, and dedicated people in that time.

Some good things do come to an end. 538/FiveThirtyEight came to an end today. My 6 years there were professionally and personally fulfilling beyond words. I want to thank all of my colleagues for making it an incredible experience and applaud all of their magnificent work.

I was laid off from 538 today, along with my exceptionally talented colleagues. I spent nearly 10 years here and am proud of my contributions and the work we did, and I am hopeful about whateverās next.

On Wednesday, Disney decided to shut down 538 and lay off the entire staff, including me. Working with this talented, kind, fun and funny crew for the past 2 1/2 years has been a great (if way too short) ride. Fivey Fox forever!

538's open source API and all the other data we/they freely compiled and shared over the years drove so much important work across the industry. this is going to have pretty severe ripple effects. and it was often work done by 2 or 3 people.
This is such a catastrophic loss not only for election journalism but also as an election data resource ā can't even count the number of times I've relied on 538's polling averages, redistricting trackers, etc for my reporting

For now, I've built a janky ass spreadsheet with the public data from the 538 polls page. I will do my best to keep it updated. More TK. https://t.co/V5lN5VW835
