Antibiotic resistant bacteria aka superbugs are a side effect of unnecessary antibiotics. That’s why I really encourage only treating if a person has true UTI symptoms + bacteria in urine (ideally waiting to see what antibiotics will work from the culture).

Re: male med students on ob/Gyn rotation…particularly challenging at @VeteransHealth where 3/4 of my pts report sexual trauma. I struggle with how to best include male med students with such a vulnerable population & try to have them w me at another (non-VA) site.
🧵:For most male medical students, their OB/GYN rotation is one of the first times that they are not automatically perceived as trustworthy. This sends many for a loop. Having new boundaries can feel like exclusion! What is going on here? Who is to blame?

What it is really like from a hospital lawyer who sees that no bill can cover the nuance of human reproduction 👇🏼👇🏼it is not safe to be pregnant in states that prohibit abortion.
🧵1/For those of you who don’t know me well, I am a healthcare regulatory attorney and work in a hospital. I work in a state that has banned abortions at my hospital except those necessary to “save the life of the woman.” Let me explain how this works in practice.….

There are so many instances when pregnancy puts the pregnant person’s life in danger. In residency in Ohio, where abortion laws were v restrictive, I *already* had seen women hospitalized for complications of self-attempted ending of pregnancy. This is dangerous.
The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson is a destructive setback for ob-gyns and patients. However, we’ll continue with unwavering resolve to support all people who struggle against interference with the patient–physician relationship.
