i know I'm getting old because I'm starting to panick as technology changes and people get it wrong. people are treating software systems like humans, including giving them "intents" and "claims" and "lies". it's a program!! it can't lie!! it doesn't know anything!!.

my kid holds his hand up like a little roman emperor when demanding things. im teaching him to say "i decree" then state his wish as he does this. surely this will be hilarious simply and not have downstream consequences.

Him & his brother have huge egos, not Steven Segull, more subtle. Any asshole that has a theory of everything, refuses to publish in real journals and gets torn a new one by Sean Carroll shouldn't be followed. I wasted my covid year on the IDW, though it did help lead to tpot.
@__AlexCc Thank you for the heads up. I'll dig deeper into it - I don't know the guy. I just liked the opportunity to talk about my concern that we won't start seeing machines as people - we're going to start seeing people as machines.

This is the real danger. Most of our morality is built around some loose idea that consciousness is some vaunted thing and that's what makes us worthy of respect. When people find out we don't really have it the way we think we do we're going to need a replacement ethic FAST.
