Over the last couple of years in professional baseball there has been a lot of discussion about Batting Average and why current MLB hitters struggle to hit over the magical .300 mark. So... Let's Break Down Batting Average 🧵 1/13

Stop chasing someone else's move. Start chasing consistent, quality contact. Let the ball flight be your coach and use the data to bridge the gap between what you feel you're doing and what's actually happening. That's where real improvement lives. 8/8

The bottom line: There's no perfect swing template, but there are perfect outcomes. The data doesn't lie exit velo, launch angle, contact point, and spin tell you what worked, regardless of how pretty or unconventional your swing looked. 7/8

4. Was the ball hit with true backspin? This deserves its own thread, but here's the summary: limit topspin, limit sidespin, limit clips. That's true backspin. 6/8

3. What was the point of contact? Getting an assessment with contact point data is huge. Hitting the ball out in front is usually good but like all extremes, there's a point of no return. Some hitters need to focus on catching the ball deeper, especially when working on bat

2. Did they hit it at the right launch angle? This is hitter dependent, but also field and pitch dependent. Trying to drive the ball backside? You probably want a lower launch angle. Going pull-side with authority? A higher launch angle is your friend. 4/8

1. Did they hit it hard? (Exit Velocity) Despite what some will say, training to hit the ball harder is a good thing. But how you hit it harder varies by player. Some need to swing faster. Others need to find the barrel more consistently. 3/8

I used to think the swing was a linear move that there was one "perfect" swing every hitter could replicate for success. Turns out I was wrong. No matter how much I tried to prove it, hitting isn't one-size-fits-all. Yes, the swing is a science most great hitters get into

A good assessment process is going to explain who you are as a hitter and why. To be clear - Ball flight is the output you’re trying to optimize for in games. That includes how hard you’re hitting the ball, the trajectory, direction and spin. When evaluating yourself you

I analyzed 92 MLB hitters whose whiff rates INCREASED from 2024 to 2025. You'd expect worse results, right? Wrong. Their production in the heart of the zone exploded. Here's what the data reveals about modern hitting philosophy 🧵

My favorite part of this swing is that he caught it deep, created space and flushed it with a skinny bat. Challenge was for every ball he didn't flush between 25-35 he lost a swing from that round. EV is really cool, but so are all the other things going on. 120.4 @ 30
