This is the problem, that "free to be whoever you want to be", must necessarily, as the statement literally implies, include transphobes and homophobes.

Yep, just like you can be personally against attacking Ukrainian, but you have no right to tell Putin what to do with his armies. Because he thinks that the Ukrainian people are of a lesser moral status, just like you do with prenatal human beings. Did you notice that everything.
Just because you regret your abortion doesn’t mean you have a right to stop someone else from having one. You can educate with information but never take away their choice like you once had.
