One of my main memories of 2025 will be descent into farce of the much anticipated Corbyn party, aka Friendship Is Magic A politically inept leadership, a narcissistic opposition, and an idiotic activist base criminally squandered the huge potential that existed over the summer

Describe something AI can reliably do, that I'd actually like it to do.
There are still a lot of journalists and commentators that I follow who think AI is nothing of much significance—still just a mildly fancy auto complete machine that hallucinates half the time and can’t even think. If you’re in that category: What is something I could write, or

This particular election has really rammed that point home very hard. There is nothing I can vote for that will reflect what I actually think.
I haven't made up my mind yet how I'm voting in the Friendship Is Magic internal elections; but whatever ordering I do put will have no intelligible relationship to my opinions about anything. This is bc although election pretends to be a democratic mechanism it largely isn't

@langofmind The claim in the video is much too strong. But if I'm teaching a French class I can point out (say) that "concret" means the opposite of abstract, whereas "béton" means a building material; the English translation of e.g. "musique concrète" will still sound a bit brutalist

I voted last night for the four Corbynite public office holder candidates (YP CEC) It's really annoying that I can't spoil my ballot. There seems to be no way of indicating that I'm not too lazy to vote, but I think all the SE regional candidates are rubbish (my actual position)

Watching these people suffer, especially when it feels relentless and ignored, is heartbreaking on a level that’s hard to even put into words. Anger. Grief. Disgust. Helplessness. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

So-called 'fact-checking', 'community notes', campaigns against 'disinformation', and other such initiatives should be opposed like the plague. Their only purpose is to dress ruling class propaganda in the cloak of authority.
I have seen many lies in the Guardian, but "Barak has not been implicated in wrongdoing" may be the biggest of all! Presented as a fact check, ffs

Attacking Iran was only made possible by destroying Syria. No one who cheered on the latter should ever be taken seriously again.

This is a shameless Orientalist and racist lie, fabricated by the evil Zionists who control @x. This disgusting dehumanization of Iranians and Muslims is being carried out to pave the way for aggression against the honorable people of Iran, whose only crime is opposing genocide.

Since the Iranian Revolution, literacy among women in Iran has tripled, and women now make up 57% of university students. But the Zionists who finance the global trafficking of girls through the Epstein network claim they are worried about women in Iran.

Using up the earth’s resources to power data centers so billionaires can surveil us, unemploy us & ultimately replace us sounds like the plot of a dystopian sci-fi film. Tragically it’s the reality we now face. We can live without AI. We cannot live without water, energy & land.

You can just tell from how deranged the headline is that an Israeli cooked this up

This is extraordinary (and also slightly sad, I think, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on)

@jonathandoomer Not sure if that’s an insult or compliment. I’ve been writing poorly long before AI. At least now I have an excuse if it’s really awful.

@David_Fairchild What's even worse about this worldview is that if you start equating the nurturing of AI to the nurturing of people, you do NOT get a society in which AI is treated better like humans. You get a society in which people are treated as dispensable, like sophisticate machines.

He's not just defending AI energy use. He is smuggling in a whole anthropology where humans are basically inefficient meat computers that you have to pour food and years into before they become useful. And once you accept that, the next move is obvious. If people are just costly
🚨 SAM ALTMAN: “People talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model … But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart.”
