I love this fish
I am so excited to get these 3D printed skeletons of Cryptotora (a cave balitorid) from @LSU’s Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center - (and thanks Zach Randall of @FloridaMuseum for the scans) - look at that ‘hip’ (bony connection from vertebral column to pelvic girdle)!

It’s like the opposite (upside down) version of a cyprinid skull… (supraoccipital vs basioccipital)
Someone please tell me what's going on with these vertebrae. CT of Indian humphead (Kurtus indicus, UF 182306)? Skull hook for carrying eggs? Example of the diversity of fishes being scanned @FloridaMuseum @UF for the #overtTCN. Currently @ 1,354 fish scans all on @MorphoSource

@jethroreading32 Not sure what is cooler, Kurtus supraoccipital hooks or hypertrophied ribs. https://t.co/lifBjS85kN

Look how pollution and habitat change is effecting egg clutch size of Gulf pipefish. Developing embryos in blue. Top: normal population, bottom: affected population. New Paper: Population decline of Gulf pipefish (Syngnathus scovelli) @SharkScience

Thanks @KevinKDuclos
@cgwilson25 Ok, I know this a few days late now but I wanna bring @Zach__Randall ‘s work here. Digitization can serve research purposes but can also be a great communicationand outreach tool and, with an artistic touch to it, can induce an emotional response to specimens and research.
