wrote down a poem by Burhān al-Dīn al-Biqāʿī (d. 885/1480), and taught hadith transmission to others on top of them!

Al-Shāfiʿī was referenced as the first jurist to dedicate an independent chapter (in legal typology) to “Contests & Marksmanship". He was considered a great archer; that he used to get 9/10 targets hit. Al-Bājūrī said that he misses the 10th intentionally out of fear of envy! :)

Most of our conceptualizations of "unity" and "Ummah" are based on certain modern political perceptions. Trying to project them on worship can be very problematic and might be a politicizing of ritualistic worship.

The best work I encountered which extensively examines modern Quranic exegetical methodologies and literature. It is a 3-volume book written by the late Palestinian Quran scholar Faḍl Ḥasan 'Abbās.

Did al-Shāfiʿī interpret the 7 aḥruf licence (rukhṣa) to permit reciting the Qur’an based on ‘what conveys the meaning’ (qirāʾah bi-l-maʿnā)? In both al-Risālah and Ikhtilāf al-Ḥadīth, he relates the aḥruf rukhṣa to the different reported wordings of tashahhud in prayer.🧵

Don’t cite an Ayah or a Hadith as a Daleel or an analogical premise for something you do or believe if you don’t know the textual and contextual implications of it. Respect the rules of knowledge and the principles of exegesis.

Al-Shaʿrānī recounts how all the books his father authored on hadith, grammar, legal theory, and rhetoric were stolen. In a remarkable resilience, his only reaction was, "I have authored them for the sake of Allah, so it doesn't matter whether people attribute them to me or not."

One of my favourite Mosques where I lead Taraweeh Prayers during Ramadan 2013 in the Old city of Cairo and had some of my best remarkable memories. The Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, one of the largest Mosques in the world, built during the Mamluk Islamic era 760 AH/1359 CE.
