His images and these 2 questions spark so many observations and ideas. Just ask a kid.

This example worked for middle/high school. With some thought and observation (and trial and error) it should also work with the young learners that many of us engage with (and guide) every day.
The fact that kids don't like being told what to do is not news to anyone. That is why we like to offer them choices when possible. This piece by Christine shares how we can even give kids a choice on how to improve. Love this! https://t.co/XtKJbjVsxC via @Mrs_Boatman @edutopia

and love for math! 👏
@MathforLove AND her teacher took a picture of the book so she could read order a copy. My daughter asked, "does he have any other books?" I said this is his first book, but he also made those tiny polka dot cards we play with. Her: "NO WAY!!!"

Nice to watch this kid revise his thinking and persist, and be willing to accept the limitations (no negative numbers; only 2 of each).
This is just masterful explanation of this puzzle. She both explains the structure of the puzzle, but let's the kid be in charge of the thinking. 👏👏👏 #TinyPolkaDot

... "But when we tell kids what to do, we are asking the children to fill that carton with our ideas, rather than allowing them to explore their own." — Christopher Danielson, Founder, Math On-A-Stick. https://t.co/Xpe6VRyXcY. 2/2

Good day to be reminded of👇(from https://t.co/Xpe6VRyXcY) "We adults have a responsibility to let the children play. We can be there to listen to their ideas as they do. We can play in parallel by getting our own egg cartons out and filling these cartons with our own ideas." 1/2

I can't decide if I want to try this as a 2-player game each moving a player piece (mark the starting square or squares with a disc). Or make a large board to walk the journey -- chalk your path. @jamestanton poses great questions
Start at a cell in a square grid. A "step" consists of moving 2 cells upward or 2 cells rightward or 1 cell downward or 1 cell leftward. The coloring scheme shows that any journey you walk returning to start must have a multiple of three count of steps. Why?
