Converting car lanes on wider roadways into protected cycle tracks, will not only add charm and character to roads presently devoid of both, but, most importantly, they will serve as the major arteries from which a cohesive network of bike lanes can grow.
A reporter (Japanese woman) asked Koike “Do you think a woman would be able handle Mori’s job?”
Koike responded “only in Japan would someone ask a question like that.” Awesome.
Add ¥5000 if you fail to notify the company - so if you are hit by a truck don’t forget to call in to let them know you won’t be in to work that day.
GABA says they need to do this to cover administrative costs - phone calls to clients etc. LOL
Not only is GABA/NOVA now unloading it’s consumption tax burden onto instructors through the invoice system, they are now forcing instructors to pay “handling fees” of ¥1500 for every reallocated lesson(lessons canceled due to illness/bereavement etc).
“Think of an e-bike as a replacement for a car, not a manually powered bike, and suddenly it seems cheap. It seems easy. It seems green. Parking is a piece of cake. And unlike a car, it never gets stuck in traffic.”
“Bicycles running side by side are often seen as "illegal," but the unfairness of a private car with only one occupant taking up the width of two or more bicycles is a problem that people don’t even notice.”
“...despite the widespread excitement about the prospects for self-driving cars and air taxis, the future of mobility in old and crowded cities is likely to be powered by human muscle.”
Nagoya Sakae, Sakuradori bicycle lane.
Waste of tax money.
It's used as a parking space for cars on a daily basis, and the blue paint peels off.Bicycles have to take the risk of riding in the car lane. We need to install poles and fences to prevent cars from entering first.
It’s become entirely possible for Gaba teachers to receive negative paychecks.
Teachers have been striking since June for a long overdue wage increase(first since 2008), against the QII requirement - and now this. Big strikes upcoming. Support
@Tozen_Union
Fed up Gaba instructors on strike again today.
Underpaid with no wage increase since 2008 - & no offer to compensate for company shifting tax burden onto instructors with a requirement to register for QII invoice system that will have instructors paying much more in taxes.
As if missing out on a day’s income wasn’t bad enough(GABA teachers don’t get any sick days) the company just announced a “dispatch fee” fine system(after briefly retracting their similar “handling fees” scheme after SNS outrage). This is just unabashed greed and exploitation -
6AM & 14 yo son wakes up late(understandably) for his team’s game. “Dad, I gotta be at station in 15 minutes!” Put boy and bag of equipment on back of cargo bike(still decorated from last night’s Santa ride) - & away we go. Made it easily. Realize we’ve never missed owning car.
We just got some big news. Gaba announced that they will retract the worst of their “handling fees” for canceling due to illness, bereavement, etc.
Solidarity works!
Congratulations Tozen Gaba Workers Union members. Suck it union haters.

Today was a good day. Offered a good long term teaching job starting in April and picked up my first pedicab fare. The ¥1400 for 10 min cycling was just ¥100 less than what Gaba has been paying most instructors per lesson since 2008. Happy to put that black company behind me.
With a bit of planning you can enjoy this same old time vibe all the way from Yokohama to Shinagawa. Might actually be one of the best 25 km urban bike rides in the world.

GABA, now owned by NOVA, is pushing their independent contractors to join their new invoicing system. However we are hereto argue that GABA workers are employees that should have employment rights. Read about it and our court case from 2019👇👇
