Baringo: We are rich. Raymond is wrong. He insulted us so much. That's unacceptable. We have a right of reply. We are among the richest counties in Kenya, in fact, top three. We have the largest number of goats. We own almost all the beehives. We have most of the jiggers. 1/3
THREAD: Ever wonder what happens to those with severe COVID-19 infections in the hospital? Read through the 7 stages of severe COVID-19 infection to learn about the harrowing hospital stays many patients endure.
“Madam Deputy President” is no longer a fictional character. If I had a daughter, I would be telling her “look baby girl, she looks like us.” Congratulations

But Nairobi people lazima tushike adabu going forward. Our laissez-faire attitude towards Covid has cost people their livelihoods. TWICE! We are individually and collectively responsible. Next time a politician calls you for a rally, don’t show up. 1/2
First batch of COVID-19 vaccines set to arrive in Kenya 1st week of March. First priority will be given to Health Care Workers, Frontline Workers - Security Personnel & Teachers, Vulnerable Persons and Hospitality Workers. Politicians please take note: You are NOT in the list.

@JamesMacharia_
threatened to arrest matatus with no hand sanitizer. Does he know there are no sanitizers out there? They are sold out! Shouldn’t the govt. provide free hand sanitizer for them anyways? The govt is the one with the obligation to keep people safe.

How do you tax a foreigner for bringing in something new, e.g. a camera he/she is coming to use while visiting Maasai Mara with the intention of going back with it?
@ahmednasirlaw
Nice study room! I actually don’t like these online classes. I feel like I have been turned into half a teacher! I think ama just buy wheelbarrows for mine!
''Covax will give Africa 20% of its vaccines. And there’s no way to get rid of Covid with 20% vaccination, we need at least 60%. Europe aims for 80%, US is trying to vaccinate everybody. They vaccinate, impose travel restrictions and then Africa becomes “the continent of Covid”.
@KiigenKoech
However painful your experience may be, it is better to avoid talking about it on social media. Try talking to your dad. If that is difficult, reach out to your close kin. Here, we will just judge and troll you.
THREAD Is Nairobi the new Manaus?
In January, CNN reported about how the City of Manaus missed warning after warning until its health system collapsed. To borrow some parts of the report: (1) It's waiting hours in line to buy an oxygen tank -- only to find there's none left 1/n
Some of our schools are mud-walled because we are trying to be eco-sensitive. We wear torn clothes so that we can get Vit. D from the sun, and not because we can't afford new ones. We aren't poor at all. I condemn Raymond in the strongest terms possible.
Na sitaki makasirikio!
@JoeyMannarinoUS
This is such an unfortunate post. We will not open the chapters of colonization, slavery and other injustices meted out on Africans by Europeans. We will not open the wounds on stolen African wealth.
Masks work. Social distancing works. Quarantine & isolation work. They're not opinions. Deciding not to use them maybe a political decision but a dangerous one! Blaming the youth for being reckless may be true to some extent, but they learn from the best - politicians!
@ItsMutai
Jeez! A 14-year old is not legally competent to consent to sexual acts. They can hardly make a school selection without help from parents and teachers. Lets the children be!
My Gavana under sieke! Kabarnet Boda riders invaded his mansion today for their promise of Ksh 1M from chief hasola himselfu. Gavana is still searching for a book titled “Tumia Akili”. Woe unto the other 5k plus riders who were imported from the other towns. They got zilch.

And people who did Insurance option could easily cross over to law school and vice versa. So really no difference between you and him.
Governments world over are balancing protection of human lives with the economic costs of COVID-19. The more people flout these restrictions, the more likely more will be imposed. It is up to us all to listen and think about the impact of our individual actions. Self Leadership.
Next time you get the urge to drink and dance in a packed club without a mask, think about a child who is hungry today because of our collective irresponsibility. I mean all of us. Citizens AND leaders.
The misuse of criminal law can damage trust in government services, creating disastrous results for public health. Public Health 101: How NOT to botch a pandemic response
Cheating in exams is a form of corruption. When teachers & parents encourage kids to cheat, then we can't expect to create a generation of honest, hardworking Kenyans. The culture & acceptance of cheating and corruption will be cemented and this is detrimental to Kenya's future
LONG THREAD. Received questions in my DM about Pfizer vaccine and will attempt to explain based on available info. Early readout of the Phase III clinical trial of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine trial results after 94 symptomatic COVID-19 cases is very positive (90% effectiveness). 1/n
to fetch water from muddy pools, not coz we lack piped water in our homes, but because it's a form of physical exercise. Ignore the occasional reports of hunger. We occasionally go on a diet. Our kids walk miles to school so that they train to be future world-class athletes. 3/4
Indoor restaurants, bars, and social gatherings are unsafe right now. Low occupancy, increased ventilation, and masking when possible can reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of COVID-19 in these places, especially when the virus is spreading widely.
Thread: The 1918 Spanish flu was named so because Spain was the first country to publicly report cases. US, China, France, etc. already had cases (sounds familiar?). So the habit of stigmatizing countries for reporting new variants did not start with COVID. But should end now 1/n
LONG THREAD: RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS.
In general, children with COVID-19 are less likely to have severe symptoms than adults. They often experience an asymptomatic infection. Children, particularly those < 14 years of age, appear to be affected less commonly than adults.
What is Amos Wako wearing? Anyways, congratulations to Dr. Ngozi, who is set to receive unanimous backing to become the first woman and first African director-general of the

All our kids are employed. Yes, have you seen our school leavers loitering in our centres? Have you seen us following our MPs or senior government officers to ask for employment? We don't. Our kids come straight from school to a ready job. Our women travel long distances 2/4
Random vaccine thoughts - THREAD: Making direct comparisons between vaccines is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, as trials have different endpoints and are done at different times, e.g. Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines were tested before the emergence of new variants. 1/n
The stay at home routine during the COVID-19 pandemic has altered priorities, produced some positive and negative practices and revealed some needs we may not have identified previously. What are changes in your priorities, practices and needs so far in this strange time?
About Covid-19 and Curfews: The best way to get infection rates as low as possible is to go into lockdown. But that has serious financial implications, not to mention the widespread mental health impact. There is some evidence that bars and restaurants are COVID-19 hotspots. 1/n
Vital question: are we ready to ease social distancing? Suppression of the COVID-19 epidemic requires expanded targeted testing and thorough & rapid contact tracing. Without those elements, we are likely to experience a more widespread epidemic with easing of distancing. 1/n

Woman Representatives too, and 2/3 gender rule. It can be applied in appointments. For now, we have more pressing needs like putting food on the table. We will re-visit when we can afford.

Are people just waking up now to the fact that vaccine trials have been happening in Kenya? And that is not a bad thing. Without clinical trials we will have no vaccines, medicines or devices. We have come a long way since the Tuskegee days. 1/3
@miss_mumbz
(1) 22 countries have reported Omicron. Why subject only those traveling from SA to tests? (2) If they are not going to do sequencing to confirm omicron, why subject one to mandatory quarantine when every other positive case is under HBIC? And they do a shoddy job while at it.
Is fat really the worst thing that a human being can be? Is fat worse than vindictive, jealous, shallow, vain, evil, boring or cruel? Body shamers are in there somewhere.

Why do you want to fight him? He has a bigger war to fight for all of us. Let him be. Allow him to work. You can re-visit after we defeat Covid-19
It is incorrect to use adverse events and side effects interchangeably. A side effect is any health problem shown by studies to be caused by a vaccine, e.g. sore arm. An AE is an undocumented pharmacological event that is unforeseen, but not necessarily causally related
A total of 277 adverse effects from the vaccine have been reported across the country. These include headaches, and other side effects. The majority of these are reported to have cleared within a 2 day period.
Kenya is in a good place pandemic-wise. Case load and hospitalizations are low. It is time to update our strategies to reflect the moment. Lift restrictions including masking mandates. Increase vaccination. Vaccines continue to provide protection against hospitalization and death
@miss_mumbz
So sorry that you had to go through this. I don’t understand why they treat people traveling from Joburg like criminals. Packed into some small room. No ventilation, No info! You just wait for 2 hrs plus for your fate. Yet the country has guidelines for home based isolation. 1/2
Covid-19 Season 1: China. Season 2: Europe. Season 3: USA. Season 4: Africa. Kenya should leverage on existing HIV/TB infrastructure & experience for mass screening, testing, tracing, and use of Genexpert platforms for testing. 17 MPs have tested positive. I fear for the masses.
Data from other countries show that Covid vaccines work. Would love to analyze local data but...... Smallpox, polio, measles, etc. were controlled or eradicated with vaccines. We have been doing this vaccine thing since, at least, 1796. When you turn comes, please get vaccinated.

There's a story about people on a boat. A guy decides to dig through the floor of his cabin. Water flows in. Other passengers are pissed, But it's his own cabin, the guy argues, so why should it matter? Personal choice only goes so far when we're all or on the same boat.
Research has shown that fake news spreads much faster and farther than truthful information. Over the last few decades, conspiracy theories and misinformation have eroded public trust in vaccines, leading to the re-emergence of nearly eradicated diseases in many countries. 1/2
