Going forward in her research career, Sam is also interested in anorexia’s comorbidity with obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder — all conditions she has experience with. She believes her answers could lie in the hypothalamus and amygdala [6/7]

The goal of her project is to test the impact of different therapeutic approaches. Motivated by her own dissatisfaction with current treatments for anorexia, Sam is eager to find better interventions for eating habits and compulsive behaviors associated with the condition. [5/7]

Sam has found she can usually predict the mice’s behavior. It matches her own lived experience. Anorexia nervosa has affected her, her mother, and all her mother’s siblings. “I struggled for 15 years. I might as well try to help people," Sam said. [4/7]

"After her master's, Sam wondered how she could apply her understanding forward to the brain. She ended up joining the Horvath lab, where she currently studies a mice model of activity-based anorexia. [3/7]"
