At today's Prime Minister's Questions, Lib Dem leader Ed Davey has slammed Northumbrian Water for hiking bills and dumping nearly 1 million tonnes of sewage last year around Sunderland & Whitburn. The Labour Government must end this scandal!.
Since KKR bought into Northumbrian Water, bills have soared and raw sewage has flooded the Whitburn coast. Now they're set to buy Thames Water. Can the Prime Minister guarantee they won’t hike bills and dump sewage again? . @EdwardJDavey

Whilst saving some glass making facilities on Wearside are to be welcomed, the announcement raises more questions than answers. What is the future of the Glass Centre’s collections, exhibitions & teaching? And what will happen to the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art?.

The Echo covers comments from Niall Hodson that today's announcement is undoubtedly a downgrade which we are being asked to applaud. The National Glass Centre is still going to go due to the University’s wilful neglect & indifference from S'land Labour.

Undoubtedly a downgrade which we are being asked to applaud. The much-loved and culturally significant National Glass Centre is still going to go due to the University’s wilful neglect and indifference from the Council and local MPs who refused to try and save it.
We're delighted to have been awarded £5m from @DCMS Cultural Development Fund through @ace_national towards Glassworks: Sunderland; a new £7.5m facility for people to create in glass, in partnership with @V_and_A, @sunderlandukofficial and @sunderlanduni .

At the first real test of where the loyalties of Sunderland’s Labour MPs lie under this new government they either didn't vote or shamefully backed their party bosses & a new Labour age of austerity instead of doing the decent thing to help older people struggling with fuel bills.
Among 53 Labour MPs abstaining on the Winter Fuel vote were seven from the North East: @marykfoy, @SharonHodgsonMP, @IanLaveryMP, @EmmaLewellBuck, @AndyMcDonaldMP, @grahamemorris and @KateOsborneMP. York’s @RachaelMaskell also abstained.

Sunderland Labour's 'Starmer Yes Man' leader is defending the indefensible here. Of course millionaires don't need Winter Fuel Payments, but thousands of people on Wearside just above the Pension Credit threshold need help and will miss out - just as energy bills are set to rise.
