While Turin is known as the “Detroit of Italy”, and home to the largest car manufacturer in the country, there is a tacit understanding its heart is no place for vehicles. The main square in Piazza San Carlo was stripped of parking in 2004, turning it into the city’s living room.

Almost two billion items of plastic packaging are thrown away in the UK each week. Shampoo, body wash and liquid hand wash add to this plastic pile-up - so switching from bottles to bars is better for the environment. Eight plastic-free soap bars to try: https://t.co/BwEWfYJRuJ

In a week when a new almshouse scheme in Southwark won the prestigious Stirling Prize for excellence in architecture, it was good to visit some of the wonderful historic 'hofjes' (courtyard almshouses) of Haarlem and Leiden - still fulfilling their founding purpose.

Government plans could swap strict wildlife protection for offsetting🚨 But there’s no evidence the Nature Restoration Levy would work for protected species, from Barn Owls to Grey Seals🦉 Stronger safeguards are needed. We’re calling for a strict precautionary approach,

Many insects hibernate over winter, but bumblebees and butterflies may emerge during mild spells and will look for food. So growing nectar-rich, pollinator-friendly plants is especially important in winter and early spring. Ideas: https://t.co/Ud1oVlhx8g

All year round, trees protect us from extreme weather, keeping us all a little bit more comfortable. 🌧️ During rainy months, trees are vital for flood protection, absorbing rainwater runoff ☀️ In summer months, trees act as nature's air conditioning, cooling the air around them
