Unique Rothschild house and gardens with exceptional French furniture, English paintings, Aviary and woodland playground. See website for opening days/times.
The Rothschild Foundation and Waddesdon Manor are deeply saddened to announce the death of Lord Rothschild, businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist and cultural leader. He will be greatly missed by his family, his colleagues and his many friends.
There’s nothing quite like a bright

morning and the sound of bird song in an inspiring setting.
Let’s hope for more of these in the next few days.

We became a blue beacon last night to show our support for NHS staff and those working to deliver vital services.
While we look after Waddesdon for future generations we know that NHS staff are looking after us, so this is just a small way to show our thanks

The first signs of spring are emerging!
The gardens are looking especially magical at the moment as thousands of snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses appear.
While we may be closed, we hope you enjoy this uplifting sight. Waddesdon's grounds reopen from Sat 11 Mar.
We've spotted the very first snowdrops of the year at Waddesdon! Delicate white blooms are beginning to pop up on Baron's Walk and along the bank as you walk from the Manor towards the Aviary.

Everyone must book tickets in advance to manage numbers:
We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Waddesdon.
Letting the flowers bloom on your lawn helps to provide a vital source of nectar for bees and other insects. So this month we're joining Plantlife's initiative 'No mow May'. Find out more:

Now in Tier 4, we've decided to cancel our Winter Light evenings and dinners in January. However, from 6 January we will be opening our grounds for local exercise in the fresh air.
Having found ourselves unexpectedly closed from Sunday, yesterday we were delighted to donate some much-needed food to Aylesbury Vineyard foodbank.
Among the donated foods were:
20L egg mayonnaise
4 wheels of brie
6kg sliced turkey
60L tomato soup

Sleigh bells ring are you listening, at Waddesdon lights are glistening...
...and you can see them from this Saturday when
#Christmas
at Waddesdon opens!
In 2019, 350,000 spring bulbs were planted around the grounds to transform the gardens into a riot of colour. However, the first national lockdown last March meant that these flowers bloomed behind closed doors.
We've got some happy news to brighten this Monday afternoon, two of our Christmas Fair stallholders -Will and Stef from
@KurbsideKitchen
- got engaged at Waddesdon last week! We can't think of a better place to propose and we're sending huge congratulations to the happy couple 🎉
In 1957 James de Rothschild bequeathed Waddesdon to the National Trust, & two years later his widow, Dorothy, oversaw the opening of the House to the public

While we're all stuck at home we thought we'd share this wintery picture of Waddesdon to help us look ahead to the time when crisp, winter walks can be enjoyed with friends and family once again ❄
Abington was a highly visible leader of London fashion and it is not surprising that she sent the portrait back to Reynolds a few years after it was painted, so that the dress and hairstyle could be updated

Waddesdon stands with the people of Ukraine, & our thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing crisis.
This week, the Rothschild Foundation has approved grants for Save the Children’s Ukraine Appeal, & other charities, in support of their work delivering emergency aid.
While Daffodil Valley continues to bloom into a carpet of yellow at the start of each spring, local schools helped ensure that this spring has been even more spectacular. Around 600 pupils helped the gardeners plant spring bulbs, including 35,000 in Daffodil Valley!
Unlike some museums, we also have a garden. So this year we’re joining in with
#NoMowMay
and allowing parts of it to grow naturally. This allows wildflowers to bloom providing a vital source of nectar for insects and increasing biodiversity

Daffodils have been growing in Daffodil Valley for over 100 years, after they were planted by James and Dorothy de Rothschild in memory of James’ great aunt, Miss Alice.
Waddesdon's gardens are known for their manicured appearance. But this year we’re joining in with
#NoMowMay
and allowing parts of it to grow naturally, allowing wildflowers to bloom to provide a vital source of nectar for insects & increasing biodiversity:
We're delighted to announce that Christmas at Waddesdon is back with magical lights and the gardens aglow.

Did you hear about the opening of our

toilet at Waddesdon Manor last week?
Providing a safe and clean toilet with the right equipment, enough space, and the privacy that everyone deserves has been a long time in the making, but it's finally here!

A sign that good things are coming - our garden's manager spotted these primroses and Cyclamen Coum by the House today, proof that spring is just around the corner!

Don't forget the clocks go back tonight! Spare a thought for our stewards in the Manor who will be stopping all 27 clocks on display in the House tonight and then restarting them again in the morning!
#conservation
Today the clocks have gone back giving us an extra hour in bed and more sunlight in the morning!
Did you know that there are 65 clocks (and several watches) within Waddesdon Manor's collection? 🕰️
My favourite item in the archive is a photograph taken at Waddesdon while Baron Ferdinand stayed here with his animals. Smart man, smart llama, fantastic hat. What's not to like? Hannah, Assistant Archivist

Less isn't always more...
Today we re-open the doors to the Manor after closing them to the public for the best part of a year. Rooms like the Dining Room haven't been fully dressed since 2019, and we can't wait to see visitors enjoying the treasures within once again.
We welcomed back some sunshine earlier this week and managed to capture the daffodils starting to bloom in the winter sun.
Thousands of these are now flowering along Daffodil Valley, providing a stunning display. Come and enjoy them on a walk through the grounds.
Today marks the
#springequinox
, which means longer days, warmer temperatures and new beginnings.
The gardens are abloom with colourful spring flowers and we cannot wait to begin to welcome more of you back over the next few months.
Here’s a photo of our parterre looking glorious to help you escape the gloomy weather. The river of blue running through the bedding is some of the 20,000 ‘Blue Magic’ our gardeners planted last year.

Over the lockdown period the Rothschild Foundation and Waddesdon Manor have been working with local organisations to provide free hot meals to vulnerable adults and children, ensuring that we help those that need it most during these difficult times

It's
#NationalLoveYourPetDay
and we couldn't resist getting involved...
We asked staff at Waddesdon to send us photos of their pets in the grounds and the results are sure to brighten up your Monday. Meet Dexter, Douglas, Drumlin, Zazoo, Kiki and Pixie!
We all need a bit of colour to cheer us up at the moment. So in celebration of
#BonfireNight
we're enjoying
#naturesfireworks
around the gardens.
Did you know we don't have fireworks at Waddesdon due to our wonderful feathered friends in the Aviary?
Today marks the
#WinterSolstice
and therefore the shortest day of the year. This means only one thing...more time to enjoy the dazzling displays in the gardens!

Waddesdon was created for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild and designed by French architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur, in the style of a French Renaissance château like those in the Loire valley. The foundation stone was laid in 1877.
