Fantastic day of professional development. Started with deconstructing some things. Then moved to a deep dive into defining student engagement…moving slowly to figure out the parts, purposes & complexities. Group 3 was phenomenal to work with!!! @OlentangySD

Today I snapped at a kid…twice. Later I found him to talk.He understood why I snapped the 1st time, but not the 2nd. He said he was paying attn…we chatted…i believed him. I was wrong. So I apologized. His face =😁 This is a reminder:It’s ok to apologize to kids when ur wrong

This year was all about “student agency” & giving students choices in their education. To prepare for the READING COMPREHENSION section of our final exams, students have this choice board/study guide to practice the language mode(s) they want to improve😀 #LaClaseDeEspañol

During today’s chalk talk, Mrs. Howard’s second graders got to choose a strategy they felt was reliable to be problem solvers! They checked their own work and the work of a friend in another group to ensure everyone’s thinking was reasonable!

I have made it my MISSION that students DO science in first year chemistry. Run experiments, have their hypothesis shattered, collect data that does not support their initial claim, and argue over the meaning of data. Science is not as black and white as our textbooks show.
Part of the reason the pandemic is so bad in US is because people who are never involved with scientific method are seeing Science unfold in real-time. Errors, evidence, & changing methodology happen 100%, but in public eye, seen as "they have no idea what they're talking about."
