Ugh, I read that NYT article and am heated. I am so very tired of this willfully obtuse view on sensitivity reads. It is not lawyering! Describing sensitivity reads as a practice to not “offend” is a dismissive and simplified take on a very important part of bookmaking. 🧵

I’ve officially read through all queries sent through the Howland submissions email! Thank you everyone who submitted to me. Still reading through the fulls I’ve requested but queries are done. Onto QueryManager I go!

If you genuinely can't make a deadline, you or your agent just need to say so! Our scheduling is important to us, but more important is the strength of the book and the health of our authors. However, we can't know what's going on inside your mind unless you communicate it!!
If a publisher gives you a sudden and abbreviated book deadline and you feel you can’t meet it but also can’t say no, it’s on your agent to assure you it IS possible to say no and to help you do so.
