Actor, Writer, Producer, Director, Musician, Engineer, Founding Member of Violent Femmes, Actor with Theatre X, Member of NINETEEN THIRTEEN and Night Crickets.
Upon meeting Ornette Coleman, he completely stunned me by saying he liked the Violent Femmes music before I even had a chance to say the same words about him to him…
👏🏻❤️🎶!
40 crazy years ago today, we unleashed this timeless collection of folk/punk music to a sleepy, unsuspecting World…”Let me go on!” and we did for a few glorious years ❤️👏🏻🎶🎉!!!
@violentfemmes
On this day in 1983, my trio Violent Femmes released our debut album on Slash Records. My Father advanced the $ to us to record and the rest is Wisconsin Music history! The new FolkPunk movement had its first Figureheads ❤️👏🏻🎶!
Just did an interview with
@uncutmagazine
to tell the tale about how VIOLENT FEMMES created the recording of our “hit”, ‘Blister in the Sun’…Pictured here is the Drum System that I played on the original recording ❤️👏🏻🎶🎉🥁!
Help us celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the release of our first album. The CD and Streaming will be available on Friday, December 1st with vinyl available on February 9th…The Fems raw and willing with a folk/punk power that spread the beauty of dazzling degradation.
Exactly 1 year ago today I began a painful 6 month journey through the health care system …I’m extremely happy to report that I survived (obviously) and that I’m now steering my life towards a clear and healthy way of living ❤️…Love & Drums
FOREVER ❤️👏🏻🎶🥁!
On this day in 1983,
#ViolentFemmes
released their self-titled debut studio album featuring "Blister in the Sun" "Kiss Off" "Please Do Not Go" "Add It Up" "Prove My Love" and "Gone Daddy Gone"
The Fems are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of our first album this year. I’m a founding member of the trio and I thought that I would send along a picture of the Drum System that I used on the album featuring the Tranceaphone and a Gretsch snare! Love&Drums❤️🥁
Thinking about my friend Bobby Rivers who got in trouble for having the Fems on his TV show in Milwaukee. A wonderful man who needed to return to broadcasting …Much Love to his family and friends
❤️
Wishing Gordon and Brian a most happy and remarkable anniversary today…We knew we had it from the start…It was only a matter of time…Love to you both and here’s to Fems Fans Everywhere ❤️👏🏻
@violentfemmes
So sorry to hear that the Downer Theater has closed…Violent Femmes used to love playing music underneath the theaters’ marquee….It had great acoustics for sidewalk busking ❤️👏🏻🎶!
The Fems visit Mary Nohl’s house/museum on
Lake Michigan where she let us take pictures for the HALLOWED GROUND album…Mary was not a witch, but a wonderful and mysterious woman ❤️👏🏻!
@violentfemmes
I haven’t seen this video in a long time. I can now testify that we were in fact quite young and roughly handsome at this point in our young career 👏🏻❤️🎶
I can remember very clearly and emotionally that when the Fems 1st album was released (40 years ago today!), I was holding my newborn son Malachi in one hand and the Fems record in my other hand. I had a grip on my destiny at that very moment ❤️👏🏻🎶!
Yes, after Willem left for NYC, I auditioned and took over his position in Theatre X. Then after awhile, I left the group and started Violent Femmes. Reflecting back, I should have pursued my acting career which has brought me more satisfaction and confidence in my ability ❤️🎭
Fifty years ago today,
#CBGB
opened at 315 Bowery. In its 33 year existence, the
#EastVillage
dive bar utterly transformed music, the reverberations of which are still felt today. More on how it all started:
I’ll be speaking with famous Music writer David Fricke later today about the Fems 1st album. David is writing liner notes for the 40th anniversary edition 👏🏻🎶
It was a supreme joy to spend some time last evening with some of my fellow Theatre X members. We enjoyed some tremendous food, and we broke open the box of righteous old memories…A splendid time was had by all…👏🏻❤️🎭🎉!
"It was a serious show so I had them pose seriously. Then…. then…. she wanted to climb up his shoulders – I can’t imagine I suggested this… but who knows." - George Lange
My father Victor Sr. gave me the money so we could record this album. Without my father’s belief in me, this recording wouldn’t exist. Thanks again Dad for your faith and love. I miss you ❤️

' self-titled debut came out OTD in 1983. As
@Diffuser
put it, Gordan Gano “was singing straight from the dysfunctional psyche of the American teenager . . . and a new generation of indie rockers . . . was ready to embrace him.” Listen:
I just lost my best friend and musical partner Mike Hoffmann. I am shattered beyond words at this time, but I will write more about him in the future. God bless and keep him Forever...I love you Mikey ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Today is the 40th anniversary of the
@violentfemmes
debut album which was release on April 13th, 1983. Their debut record is said to be one of the most influential records in the history of alternative music.
On this day in 1983, my group released our first album. It’s nice to know that some people still remember us and appreciate what we did so long ago ❤️👏🏻🎶!
On this day in 1994, “The Crow” soundtrack was released featuring The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Violent Femmes, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Rollins Band, Helmet, Medicine and more.
I had a few different ‘experiences’ with Lou as well…He could be a trusted friend and mortal enemy in the same conversation…I’m glad that I got to do some recording with him on Moe’s album where 2 of the Fems, and the Velvets appear…
❤️👏🏻🎶🎉🎭❤️
I had three ‘experiences’ with Lou Reed. The 1st (interview) I just about got away with. The 2nd (when he called me at home to thank me for an act of kindness) was unexpected and genuinely touching and the 3rd (another interview) was aborted after 5 mins. 😄
@therealjohncale
As an audio engineer and Beatle lover, I’m so beyond grief to hear of Sir Geoff Emerick’s passing. Engineers everywhere should put their mic stands at half mast tonight in his honor...Your life mix is done. Now rest in beautiful silence ❤️❤️❤️.

Happy birthday to Lowell George, whose wandering spirit and slanted and enchanted imagination seems to enliven us more and more with each passing day, even as we lament his absence. A few years back I wrote about Lowell and Little Feat for Oxford American.
Since it's Alex Chilton's birthday today, here are a couple of his performances with Teenage Fanclub along with their memories of time spent with Alex:
I heard that the Fems were featured on a segment on NBC News last night. They were talking about Record Stores and they played a bit of BLISTER…Well I’ll be damned🤔🎶🥁❤️!
What are YOUR favorite songs from 'The Crow' Soundtrack (1994), originally released 30 years ago this week?
Read our tribute by Erika Wolf + listen to the album here:
My baby daughter Toshiko crashing the stage at a Fems concert at the Oriental theater. She got loose from my wife and ran onto the stage. We were playing Country Death Song and the audience was scared she was going to fall off the stage…Or down into the Well…🤪?
FYI : The deluxe vinyl box set of our first album will be released this Friday (March 1st) on
@CraftRecordings
…I’d recommend getting yours before the limited edition is gone daddy gone ❤️👏🏻🎶!
Just a thought…I’d like to see my folk/punk Wisconsin Trio, “Violent Femmes”, in the

I remember that the Fems played an
#EarthDay
Celebration at ( I believe?)
RFK Stadium, and when we played Gone Daddy Gone,
my Son Malachi played the Bass while Brian did his percussion thing. It was a proud moment in my life…❤️👏🏻🎶🎉…!
Available Today wherever you get your records ❤️👏🏻🎶🎉!
…Happy 40th Anniversary Vinyl edition of our 1st Album! The liner notes by David Fricke are marvelous, even ❤️👏🏻🎉!
Thinking about and sending congratulations to my friend and fellow actor Willem Dafoe today in regards to his new film “INSIDE” which opens this weekend ❤️👏🏻🎥!
One night many years ago, there was a knock on our apartment door and when Karen opened the door, we were surprised to see Tony and Karen’s sister Gail standing there…They stopped by before going to the Jazz Gallery which was just down the block from where we lived ❤️👏🏻🎶!
What an incredible character Mojo was…He opened up for the Fems a few different times and we always had an hysterical time laughing together at the stupidest shit…Rest in Humor dear Mojo❤️
Mojo Nixon, 1957-2024
One of the most outsized personalities on college radio in the '80s, Mojo Nixon won a fervent cult following with his motor-mouthed redneck persona and a gonzo brand of satire with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
I started my career in show business as an actor, but then found moderate success as a musician, while always longing to continue my work in “make believe” on stage and screen. I hope to indulge my acting heart from now until my last day of waiting in the wings to go on.❤️👏🏻🎥🎭
