With enormous sadness, I joined Chief Jeffrey Norman and MPA President Alex Ayala to announce the passing of Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder. My thoughts are with his family and his fellow police officers. His bravery and his service are a major part of his legacy.

As I said early this morning, my prayers are with the wounded Milwaukee police officers - and with all the police officers who protect us. The person responsible will be brought to justice. I ask anyone who can help the investigation to reach out to police.

Today, I toured Care for All, a nonprofit clinic providing reproductive care and making a real difference in the Concordia neighborhood.

Today, we raised the Juneteenth flag over Milwaukee. Because we’re not turning back. We’re not rewriting history. And we won’t stop until freedom is real for everyone.

Shoutout to @UWM for hosting the Trauma in Our Community Conference — a space to reflect on how trauma shapes our lives and how we respond. Healing doesn’t come through violence. It comes through support, connection, and accountability. That’s how we build a safer Milwaukee.

Milwaukee secured a key exemption from federal port fees that threatened trade at @PortMilwaukee and across the Great Lakes. Thanks to advocacy across the region and support from @repgwenmoore, the Great Lakes got an exemption. This protects jobs and keeps goods moving.

I am horrified by the shootings and murders in our neighboring state of Minnesota. Irrespective of deeply held policy differences, violence cannot be part of American politics. My thoughts are with those injured and with the family and friends of Melissa and Mark Hortman.

I hope for a full recovery for the brave Milwaukee police officer who was shot and wounded last evening. To his assailant, I hope for prompt and complete accountability. Anyone shooting at a police officer deserves the harshest legal consequence.

I welcomed public market advocates from around the world to Milwaukee for the 12th International Public Markets Conference. It's the first time in over a decade the conference is being held in the U.S. and a great chance to highlight the impact of markets in communities.

Employ Milwaukee is in great hands with Julie Cayo as president. She is a proven leader and she’s dedicated to connecting Milwaukee residents with good jobs. I enthusiastically support the Employ board’s decision to name her president. Learn more:
