When I was daily driving a gas car, I often found myself on the freeway, scanning the horizon for gas stations because the needle is on E. Does this exit have a station? Maybe I’ll take the next one. What if the next one doesn’t? Range anxiety is way worse with ICE. Now I

The collapse of trust in science is going to go down in history as one of the most sad, bizarre, and destructive social contagions of modern times. We cured diseases, fed billions, and powered nations - and people ran toward conspiracies instead.

Singapore profited from turmoil in region for decades. Had it been just another Caribbean island it wound't be much better off than Jamaica.

Singapore vs Jamaica: Both islands gained independence in the 1960s, had similar populations (~1.8 million), a centrally located port, a tradition of British law, and a strong capitalist orientation. Jamaica had the added advantage in plentiful natural resources and tourism.

Things like this usually get optimised early in production. Pathological cases remain. Worst one I got was taking over 5 minutes on 1GB of data. Query alone was 64kB of SQL and crashed my text editor when I turned on syntax highlighting.

"Our database won't scale". Database: - 40GB total data - 12 queries per second - 0 indexes on query columns - N+1 queries everywhere - 200ms average query time Solution: - Shard across 12 databases - Add read replicas - Implement caching layer - Switch to "web scale" NoSQL

Is this a joke? Pediatricians are among the lowest-paid medical specialties — not millionaires profiting off vaccines. I don’t know a single physician who has ‘made money’ from giving vaccines. This narrative is completely false and dangerously misleading

They told us China was cheating. Turns out they were just building while we were preaching. While the West was busy dismantling coal plants, paying people not to boil kettles and covering farmland with solar panels that don’t work when it’s dark, China did the obvious: They kept

1914 was just a train of consequences for what was started on 27-28 March 1854, with France and Britain joining Crimean War. Now that we have another war in region can Macron take title of most idiotic French ruler in history from Napoleon III.

Most people are NPCs. If you don't control "the telling" then your enemies do. "Only the will to power matters. People will believe what we tell them to believe as soon as we control the telling, and not before. That’s just the way it is"

Have been thinking about cognitive agency. Trans proved beyond doubt that you can make the mindraped majority believe anything. Most of our word exchanges are pointless—people are incapable of believing anything which contradicts what they have been told by the tv or another
