Make it make sense: in an affordable housing emergency, the City of LA is considering selling historic public land for a for-profit corporation to build a luxury hotel. What are the City Council's motives? https://t.co/BoMODyxtcJ

🚨LA needs more affordable housing, but not at the expense of demolishing existing affordable units and displacing vulnerable renters! ED1 should exempt RSO units from streamlining and NOT single family homes. https://t.co/VIFm9BwE1O

The city might make permanent a directive from Mayor Bass that streamlines development. But in its current form, the policy threatens to make low-income Angelenos homeless.

Help us demand that City Council amend the ordinance to ensure: ☑️ No streamlining on sites with residential housing ☑️ New developments are truly affordable to people at risk of displacement ☑️ Housing approved under this ordinance is affordable forever https://t.co/zb5TtuVWWh

We definitely need more affordable housing! But we need to make sure that these new developments don’t get rid of existing rent-controlled units or displace the people who already live in our communities.

🚨 Tomorrow (10/11) at 6-8pm, LA City Council will discuss the Affordable Housing Streamlining Ordinance. This is the same ordinance that reduces the time it takes to approve new affordable housing developments in LA.

PProperty owners should have to create Tenant Habitability Plans instead of resorting to no-fault evictions. The mass evictions at Barrington Plaza serve as an example of how affordable units can be lost due to mandatory retrofits. https://t.co/EbNKTUYZ0g

Los Angeles Housing Department’s decision to allow these evictions sets a dangerous precedent as new mandates to residential buildings are coming.

Just imagine all the affordable housing we could build on all hundreds of acres the city/county already owns but is using for golf. Ok @LACityCouncil @LACountyBOS let's get the ball rolling!
Too many golf courses in LA are vastly under-utilized, City-owned, a strain on water, and taking up valuable land-use space that could be used for Housing. City/County should look at eminent domain.

Yesterday, City Council passed a motion to explore codifying a Renter’s Right to Counsel (RTC) in LA! An RTC ordinance would stipulate that tenants who have to appear in eviction court have the right to a lawyer and eviction prevention services.

Today, the UNIDAD coalition sent a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in response to her Executive Directive to inventory city-owned land for permanent and affordable housing. We urge her to preserve the Bethune site in South LA for public good.

Last week the mayor issued an executive directive regarding underutilized city-owned land. We think that her directive is in the spirit of "Public Land for Public Good" which has been our goal with the Bethune Library site. Read our open letter:
