An interesting article from @nytimes on the role of gangs in Latin American prisons . Our faculty Director @BigBigBLessing acknowledges: “the gang is solving a problem for the government (…) gives a gang a kind of power that’s hard to measure, but is also hard to overestimate”.
Intended to fight crime, Latin American prisons have instead become safe havens and recruitment centers for gangs, fueling a surge in violence.

Our director, @BigBigBLessing encountered these two books from our @UChicagoCLAS affiliated faculty Larissa Brewer-García, and @DSDProgram @BrittoHistory in their Spanish translations at the @Ed_Uniandes bookstore in Bogota Colombia. What a wonderful coincidence!.
How wonderful to see my @UChicagoCLAS colleague Larissa Brewer-Garcia's book next to my fellow @CesedUniandes author and @DSDProgram alum @BrittoHistory's book, both in Spanish translation, at the @Ed_Uniandes bookstore in Bogotá! Saludos a las dos!
