Now young Islanders won't have to pay a "travel tax" when travelling to the mainland. @u22freeferries welcomes this policy announcement & continues to call for Under 22's Free Travel on Inter-island Ferries, as until then, Free bus travel will remain exclusionary to Islanders.

This extension of the existing policy will especially benefit Isles' students studying on the Scottish Mainland. Travelling home for free has been a privilege only accessible to students whose home is on the Scottish mainland since the arrival of free bus travel.

The @scotgov has confirmed that the free ferry voucher scheme for young people aged 16 - 18 will soon be extended to all island residents under the age of 22. This is a massive success for young Islanders, helping to ease the inequality between them and their mainland peers.

Secondly, we would welcome a review of the existing Young Person's Concessionary Travel scheme. Extending provision of free return ferry vouchers to the Scottish Mainland for Islanders between ages 16 & 22 (at least) in line with free bus travel! #U22FreeFerries
