I am sick of Westminster politicians blaming migration for their failures. Immigrants are our NHS staff, our carers, our neighbours. We are a welcoming nation and I am proud of that. It’s not migration that pushed down living standards - it’s Brexit, austerity and rising bills.

More people than ever are getting the hip and knee operations they need. Planned NHS procedures are up, waiting times are down, and hospital stays are getting shorter. Still more to do, but this is real progress – thanks to the hard work of NHS staff across Scotland. 👏

Scottish Arthroplasty Project reported that 17,399 first hip or knee replacements performed in NHS Scotland hospitals in 2024 compared to 15,908 in 2019. Over the last 10 years the mean length of hospital stays, for both procedures, has decreased from 5 days to 2.6 days.
