A patient that I met 1 time for 10 minutes:
“Your spirit is healing. You have an anointing on you.”
😭😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Excuse me, I’m crying.
Yeah, this work is ministry.
Facebook reminded me that, similar to this morning, I was also interviewing 5 years ago on this exact date.
That time for medical school.
This time for residency.
Whew, I am so grateful for this journey. I can’t even put it into words.
Took a mindfulness/prayer walk through the whole hospital system this afternoon before leaving.
Took the scenic route and walked slowly.
And with that, I closed a chapter of my life.
My last time being in my medical school’s hospital 😭❤️ All the emotions and all the feels.
Super excited to work on an initiative for health screenings and health talk in local Black barbershops.
Community health is my thing.
Yes, I love a clinic and a hospital.
But I loveeeee bringing medicine *to* people.
And Family Med affords that ability.
So grateful 😭❤️
Finished my surgery clerkship today, and I have to say...
I reeeeeeeeeeallyyyyyy like surgery.
This was definitely the best rotation I've had thus far!
Probably because I love doing. Working with my hands. Building. Manual configuration.
Not my residency program saying that our retreat will be at a spa!!!
Like,
the **depth** to which the Lord loves me... is unmatched.
I don't even have to share my heart, wants, or desires, and I'm already seen. Already felt.
"A required event."
Yes ma'am.
Incredibly grateful and moved to be nominated and selected by fellow medical students and
@UABHeersink
faculty as a new inductee for the Gold Humanism Honor Society! Here’s to the compassionate work we do, the patients we honor, and the service we’ve devoted our lives to.

When you make a mistake whose voice do you hear? Are you berating yourself, calming yourself, or reassuring and problem solving?
Want to know where your ideas and reaction on mistakes come from? You guess it, your childhood (unless you have done self work to correct)
You know, last night, I cried as I submitted
#ERAS
.
(Reader: I sobbed.)
If you knew what it took to get here.
I'm so, so, so grateful.
The Lord is so faithful.
I can say that I trusted God and trusted the process. And the process was good, refining, and worth it.
I came into medical school 90% all-in on a specialty.
I am months from making a decision, and I am so far from a decision.
I like too much.
Everything excites me.
These days, I am a sponge.
Oh my goodness, so proud to share:
I BECAME AN AUTHOR THIS WEEK 😭🙌🏾✅🎉 In an international textbook!
God is so good!
Super proud of our
#girlpower
#UAB
team writing about cancer metastasis!
I don’t want it ever to be said that the things I’ve done were left up to me.
Not at all.
I just have a Good Father that I love so much.
On 11/12/2023, I made the best decision I will ever make in getting baptized.
Now, I can walk fully in what He has called me to do. 🙌🏾
Super excited to be the first feature in the Black History Month series for
@UABHeersink
! Very, very honored!! Thank you for capturing my thoughts on health disparities and racism in medicine.
Our CU2RE program was featured in part one of the
@UABHeersink
Office for Diversity and Inclusion’s Black History Month Series. See how the program helps medical students understand the history of racism in medicine and create better outcomes for all:

@britneycoreymd
! Such a great teacher in the OR. I am so grateful for her patience as she encouraged me forward in the OR by allowing me to assist her in closing. I felt more steady-handed and confident than I've ever been, and it truly made my day!
Love this tweet so much!
Academia could use this.
Medicine could use this.
The health infrastructure and industrial landscape of our work could use this.
Equity. Access. Community.
Riley’s dance class has one Vietnamese girl, one Guatemalan girl, one white Girl, and Riley.
Her instructor is the only one who listed experience with neurodivergence.
The weekly class is listed on the county rec page for $37 a month
Accessibility brings diversity naturally
I am convinced that I am living in the best days of my life. You literally couldn’t tell me any differently. I truly live an abundant and blessed life. I am so grateful 😭🙌🏾❤️
Oh wow! You get on Twitter and see yourself. I’m very behind and not as technologically engaged as I thought 😂 This post was a whole month ago.
Thank you,
@uabfcm
! So honored to be a part of the team.
A very busy day at
@UABSurgery
today, but really enjoyed it starting off with a great morning talk on Inflammatory Bowel Disease given by
@JeremieLever
. Very helpful tips in disease reminders and the future of management!
God continues to impress upon my heart that what is for you will never miss you.
No time, distance, obstacle, weakness, even your own desires… will stand in the way of what was always destined to be yours. It simply cannot miss you.
Allowing things to flow naturally in God's most perfect timing has been the biggest flex of my 30th year this year. What is meant for me is always mine and will always find me.
It will never miss me.
Accepting this in peace and with grace is my superpower.
Every time I watch

@DrSSWhitmore
. She’s so fun and real and spirited! And I loveeee her patient care scenes! Now, *that* is the essence of the Doc and woman I’m trying to be! 👏🏾
Highlight of my week—
Hands down, I got to finally be the med student to the incomparable, incredible, and amazing teacher that is
@_KenMimsD
.
Kendra was throwing out gems and life lessons all shift long.
The Beyoncé of UAB ED.
Morehouse’s welcome video to us on TikTok is playing On My Mama in the background…
and its IG story introduced us with Eve’s Who’s That Girl
and everyone keeps telling me, “Welcome Home!”
Baby, I am so home home 😂😭🙌🏾
Yassss!
This patient, with cancer, told me that I make their spirit feel good.
“And when you feel good on the inside, you forget about all the little ailments on the outside”
I’m so moved.
I worked with
@JfazendinMD
for like 5 minutes today, but that was literally the best 5 minutes of the day! Learned so much and can’t wait to learn and apply more!
I literally cannot tell you how BEYOND EXCITED AND PROUD I am this morning! Google is featuring the artwork of one of my dearest friends,
@jonkey13
!
I am squealing! 🎉👏🏾
Happy Black History Month!
You know what I love seeing??
There are a lot of women who matched into urology today, and I LOVE IT!!
Congratulations to everyone who matched!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely elated to have matched at my dream program,
@wakehealthDR
I can’t wait to get started!
We were clearly prepared with our Wake Forest gear 😂🤍
A 30-year seasoned nurse, my mother had a Grade IV subarachnoid hemorrhage at age 54. Today, I celebrate my dear mother’s 57th birthday. I am thankful to
@EmoryNeurosurg
and
@ShepherdCenter
for allowing us to celebrate her abundant life. You all are a part of our family.
Let’s talk interprofessional speed-dating, a sim designed to enhance undergraduate
#MedEd
by allowing med students the opportunity to interact with other interprofessional students! Our aim? To mitigate health disparities by knowing who’s on our team & what resources they bring!
I’m going FM for so many reasons!
I can go *to* the pt because it’s community medicine. FM allows you to practice anywhere, including on the streets for marginalized care. I’ll be authorized to see anyone—womb to tomb. And I also plan to deliver babies.
I am cracking up right now.
My car doors are iced shut. 😂😂😂
In Birmingham, AL is laughable.
It’s not even a factor of making it on time.
I cannot even make it 😂
Is this the med student equivalent of the dog ate my homework?
I’m so glad I listened to The Lord and only applied to residency programs within driving distance of my family.
While I don’t particularly like driving (in general, up the street or hours away), I absolutely do not miss this.
Also.
TSA Pre-Check and Clear are our friends 🫠
This is why they tell you to get to the airport 2 HOURS EARLY.
Welcome to one of the busiest days in the entire year for air travel.
This is
@Reagan_Airport
at ~6am on the eve of Thanksgiving 2023.
I cannot thank my big sister
@DrChi_PedsMD
enough for being so loving and thoughtful! On a

day, I was able to curl up with soup, a warm Fall blanket, and a surprise package! ❤️
@shirleneobuobi
, I am so excited to read your work and be lifted off the page!
Dropped off every pair of Figs I’ve ever owned to a local Birmingham Goodwill.
Probably worn less than 5 times.
I couldn’t be a Figs girly.
I tried.
It’s not my portion 😂
But someone will be blessed with $81 scrub sets for less than $5.
We love access and equity over here‼️
Black people, are we awake? Come closer, I need to tell y'all something. Let me whisper it...

3rd year of medical school is the only year I haven’t had a job since I was 16 years old.
(Yes, you read that right. I worked pretty close to full time during my 1st and 2nd years. Idk but yes. 😂)
Now I am looking for this MS4 “free time” to come into my life.
Someone told me that when I vote I should go in thinking of Black disabled queer women of a nonmajority faith who live in the rural South. When I vote, I have acknowledged everyone’s needs and considered the non-represented in our society.
Haven’t voted wrong since.
Thank you Gen Z.
Thank you Black women.
Thank you minoritized people fighting and voting for a better world.
Now, we really need to make sure you are listened to and get your seats at the table and are heard and appreciated.💖
- From, a Black, gay millennial.
My favorite place in the whole hospital is the Trauma Bay in the ED. I feel so empowered, so useful. So comfortable. Like, I don’t have to be given direction—I innately know what the needs are and I fulfill them appropriately.
Such a good feeling.
I just recalled that we didn’t use calculators for the MCAT.
We were really doing log equations in our brains while being timed.
…
…
…
We’re really smart, huh?
Listen, I don’t know what happened to Auntie the other night… and quite frankly, that is none of my business.
But all I know is, I will see Anita Baker at BJCC in February.
At the age of 28, I adopted a little brother. Please, everyone, look at how adorable (and brilliant—both in spirit and in brains) he is! Can always count on Charles to go out and live his life fully!
One last stop before I head back to Birmingham. My first time seeing the White House! ALSO found some Cherry Blossoms that were still blooming.

But cancelling TikTok was the hill to die on?

These past few weeks onOB/GYN have been... liberating.
As a woman.
As a human being.
As a daughter. sister. granddaughter. friend.
As a future mother.
While I still anticipate pursuing FM-OB, OB/GYN has surely educated me on how to expand the scope of my practice.

My last conference presentation of medical school ✅
I’ve really enjoyed presenting this topic on interdisciplinary teamwork in medicine, and I appreciate my mentors for encouraging me forward and sharing space in their research.

I personally am so happy that Best Friend decided to pursue radiology. Will absolutely be consulting for the rest of my life.
Sorry in advance,

Every day, I’m blessed to honor my favorite girl, who happens to be my favorite nurse!
Grateful to have a mother who supports my biggest dreams and speaks life into my being. A beautiful woman, inside and out, who I have chosen to emulate as a servant in healing. ❤️
UAB is the only hospital that has a neurology admitting service across the states of AL, MS, and GA.
LOLLLLLL ooooweee, I’m scared of residency already 😂
While I am very skilled, I am a great personality hire.
If you want your program to have a little spunk, a splash of pizazz, and a creator of unforgettable moments,
I am absolutely the woman for the job 😂
I do not hide this fact.
Your day will have some laughs ✨

Now that I can rest in my answered prayers, I can finally change my pic!
The joy in this moment will always be unfathomable.

@UAB_NRTC
@luck_urine
for her appointment to the
@UABHeersink
Faculty Council, a group that advises the dean on matters of appointment, promotion and tenure 🎓 Well-deserved, Dr. Tolwani! 👏
Today, my heart overflowed. Thanksgiving isn’t what it used to look like in years’ past, but my goodness, God is good. To be able to look across the table at loved ones. To be honored by their presence for another year is a gift. Today, I’m grateful for His love, grace, and mercy
A few weeks ago, I was asked to preach the Word of God at my childhood church for today’s Christmas Eve Sunday.
Today was such an honor,
the pinnacle moment of 2023.
A vision I saw months ago come to pass today.
God is good, amen? 🙌🏾
I have so many more goals for myself (that I’m discovering along the way) as I get closer to being an actual physician in a few months.
Of course, tactical skills…like circumcisions while I’m in nursery.
But hands down, the biggest learning this year is difficult conversations
Super surprising to me, I LOVED pediatrics. I’m not sure if it’s the hugs I got or the 4 y/o who became my best friend when I gave him Mickey Mouse stickers but…
Peds is so cool.
Kids are cool.
GREAT tip!
Also, for those moving, your school’s student store may give up free boxes! Places like Publix, Barnes & Noble, Target, etc are also great places.
😂 ask me how many times I’ve moved in my lifetime…
Yesterday, I thought, “oh, thank God we’re not a Thanksgiving running/marathon family” (except my dad 😂)…
But,
We are a singing family. We’re going to harmonize. We might even do a little dance and step.
And I love every moment of it 😭
I love these very critical, very pointed, and very direct conversations about the poor recognition of a woman’s deserved honor, especially within the church.
Had the honor of working with Chaplain services this morning.
My goodness.
There are walking angels in our hospitals who do not get the recognition they deserve.
My great-grandmother was a midwife in Union Springs/Tuskegee for close to 60 years. Elevating the stories of how this state went from hundreds of Black midwives to none should be told more widely. Pushed out of practice because of the threat to majority physicianship.
Lets support Dr. Stephanie Mitchell, CNM, of Birth Santuary, in N. Alabama. She is the only Black CNM in the state of Alabama.
And I pray that CNM’s and CPM’s in these states of low midwife numbers can and will together to improve birth and maternal outcomes for all.
My hope for my mentees, learners, and colleagues is that someday they can work at a place that they love as much as I love Grady Hospital. 🏥🙏🏽🥹
