and 10 months of returning home to the L1 English environment only saw a partial reversal of the changes seen in their L1 vowel space, not a full reset. No changes were seen in the learners' L2 vowels though, showing some level of retention.

This shift in the L1 was linked to changes occurring in these learners' French vowels over the residence abroad (which also lower - towards the quality of a native French control)
