@KevOnStage
Right after Tokyo Drift. They keep launching cars out of planes and nothing breaks. Meanwhile, pot holes are taking peoples rims and suspension out.
@iamharaldur
Ummmm......this is the country that historically gives sweetheart deals to the rich and powerful, not proper prosecution. How many times did Epstein skate free? How long did it take to bring Maxwell to justice? Nobody on black book prosecuted.
Good news, got my 1st paid job! It'll be part-time, with the opportunity to double in pay after the 1st sprint. Really happy to get this far. This is a serious game changer on my journey. I got in the door because of networking and volunteering. I cannot understate the power of…
@yagiznizipli
@ThePrimeagen
Tbf, you are representing the largest JS runtime in existence. Your words and work will be critiqued in ways you may not agree with. I think this is a great opportunity to address the critique and talk about the future of NodeJS, and what you and the team are working on.
@iamharaldur
Damn near every US election looks like it is taking place at a retirement home lol. Somehow candidates that struggle to put together sentences, keeping winning party nominations. Probably because seniors turn out to vote the most and youth stay home.
Calling it now before all the big tech influencers:
@vuejs
is going to blow up this year. Vue/
@laravelphp
is such an underrated stack. The problem with React.js blending in with Next.js, and Next becoming more opinionated, is that if someone disagrees with the direction/opionated…
@Dominus_Kelvin
Definitely the difference between solving a problem, and just building for the sake of building, without having a specific problem to solve for in mind.
Php devs tend to be more mature too.
Day 24 of
#100DaysOfCode
Studying on night shift again.
Brushed up on currying by watching this cool Dave Gray video, and then solving some currying problems on Codewars and . Hope to review a bigger PR tomorrow.
Made it to the test stage for a full-stack jr dev position. WTF!!!! WHHHAAAT!! Bruh!! I can't sleep. Anxious as hell. I don't want to blow this since this is for a damn good job. I still have so much stuff to do right. I need to optimize my GH, LinkedIn, and make a portfolio…
Today I did my test for the full stack developer job. Some sections I absolutely slaughtered. One section I did so-so. Ultimately, I cannot control whether I move onto round 4, but I can walk away knowing 2 things: I put my best foot forward today, and I can make it here again.…
@yash_mk_
My day job is currently in manufacturing. Here's how this would go:
"You need therapy? We understand, but if you're not here on Monday, it will be disciplinary action leading up to termination. You can call the benefits hotline for mental health on your own time."
Sincerely HR.
@loftwah
I just read his last tweet. Looks like he never got to say hi or bye to his mom one last time before she passed. I went off the rails for YEARS when this happened to me. I hope he has some people close to him looking out for him right now. Things get dark real fast in isolation
@TreciaKS
And that is why the book is so good! It pushes us way out of our comfort zone and delves deep into topics that other materials tend to just scratch the surface on.
@iamharaldur
It's great that you did this. My best friends brother had muscular dystrophy. Lost the ability to walk towards the end of high school. Bed bound by his early 20's. Suffered through chronic pain as he lost complete mobility. Kindest person I ever knew.
Today I put the new job on my LinkedIn, and by end of day, I have now become a top applicant at 240 different jobs. It's crazy the difference that first job makes. Volunteering got me in the door, but the first job has now given me visibility I never had before.
@iamharaldur
Controversy sells. It was insensitive by design for profit. As much as good people will condemn and boycott, morbid curiosity will always propel the most insensitive and inappropriate behaviour.
@RBR_Daily
He's got those Papa Stroll delusions.
Checo has had some good races, some great wins, back-to-back constructors. That will be his legacy. It's not a bad one in F1. It's actually pretty good. He can walk away with his head high after, even though he won't win a world title.
I have a confession to make: I don't feel like I am as good of a programmer as my peers and boss think I am. I consistently look at the things Sr's on Twitter talk about and it's all French to me. I feel like I have just gotten better at Google.
I know it's not entirely true. I…
@iamharaldur
Our primal bodies haven't been able to adapt to the advent of social media, and social media has been around for two decades now. Now progressions will be exponential, and our bodies will not be equipped for the world we create. Good stewardship is required
@DThompsonDev
I'm excited for the tool, but I'll never forget looking up questions on Stack Overflow and seeing the people asking the very question I had, being downvoted and insulted into oblivion. It left a really bad taste in my mouth.
Day 32 or
#100DaysOfCode
Pretty light day today since it was my b-day. Two PR reviews, and some more OOP challenges on . Start my 1st day at my 1st tech job tomorrow. Pretty excited! Wish me luck!
Been really struggling with feelings of just quitting programming. Shift work is getting to me. All of the long hours after continental shifts every week, all of the sacrifice. Sacrificing everything to commit to something with no defined payoff date
Day 26 of
#100DaysOfCode
Took yesterday off. Had some gnarly headaches. But back with good news today. Moved onto the next round for a great fullstack Jr Dev job! Got a test to do!
- Lucky Parking standup
-Added useMemo hooks to my fun app
-War games on OTW!
- More to come!
Saw
@PostMalone
tonight with the misses. When he came on stage with the Tie Domi Leafs jersey, it was lights out. Serious respect for wearing the jersey of a Toronto legend. That's how you do it! High energy beginning to end.
@the_mzakrzewski
I would use a ternary for a simple conditional. I prefer number 1 if I'm working through some sort of code challenge. I feel like it uses less bandwidth because it matches what I am talking through. Building something? Number 2.
I'm a non-CS degree guy trying to break full-time into tech. What people don't see, is the hours of study on my days off while working shift work (12 hr shifts) to pay the bills. Studying before a 12 hr night shift, studying on break, out of my car, libraries and cafes. This…
Tech influencers causing mental tax?
I have been saying this for years now. There are some people on these platforms that genuinely want to help.
Some genuinely want likes.
Please don't consume any form of content and just accept it at face value.
Working in tech, there is no…
Day 33 of
#100DaysOfCode
Just submitted my first PR for my job!! Came in a bit under time while overdelivering. Really proud of myself for this one. A PR on the 1st week of the job is always a great accomplishment. Had to shift to fromtend and scaffold and configure a Next app,…
Day 14 of
#100DaysOfCode
Took yesterday off, so back at the night shift grind. Feeling a bit Rusty, working through the structs section of Rustling. I skip meals to program on my night shift breaks. It's not easy, but anything to keep the needle moving forward.
Day 23 of
#100daysofcode
Going to test some GHA's and see if I can replicate the same conditions. Just need to take a moment to familiarize myself with each issue/ PR, and what the action is supposed to be, and simulate it on the project board.
30 Days of JS Leetcode 2 finish.
The game plan for day 1 of
#100daysofcode
:
-Complete two chapters of A Common Sense Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms.
-Complete the Two Crystal Balls lecture and exercise in
@ThePrimeagen
's The Last Algorithms Course You Will Need.
#JavaScript
#DSA
@supabase
And Canadian, Aussie, and Kiwi devs too! So now I just try and get someone else to write the CSS, so I don't have to deal with internal feelings of betrayal.
Day 2 of
#100DaysOfCode
Worked on backend migration a little with some more package clean-up(just a bit), added more labels to the project to help organize workflow, got two GHA Action Dependabot PR's to review, and merged my own Prisma PR without a code review....cuz 👇
Restarting
#100DaysOfCode
again. I went ghost mode for a bit with the posts. Didn't stop programming though!
Day 1
Delivered a Prisma schema for the project based on MVP model and attended first standup for the Lucky Parking project. Gonna need DSA for this backend lol!
Something cool I wanted to share with the
#100DaysOfCode
peeps. I think this is a pretty awesome way to learn Git commands. Been beefing up my Git CL since I joined a civic tech project.
Day 8 of
#100DaysOfCode
Everyday I'm
#Rustling
. Last day of night shift, just did some Rustling exercises on my breaks. Can't wait to get into my PR later today after I wake up. Will chip away at
#rustlang
on my night shift breaks.
Day 15 of
#100DaysOfCode
Grinding on night shift
✅ 2 PR reviews submitted
✅ Hackathon team nearly assembled
✅ Postgres study
✅ Checking out the
@refine_dev
docs to prep.
Day 17 of
#100DaysOfCode
Made it to Collision! Slept 4 hours, smashed a C4 & got after it.
❌ Missed a recruiter I was going to touch base with
✅ Made friends at after hours. Got to pick some amazing brains over drinks. Sr dev & a founder & director.
2 tired 4 my tickets now
Day 8 of
#100DaysOfCode
Light day, coming off the graveyard shift
✅Studied Postgres
✅Created a new issue to address the failing node check. You can read more about it al here
✅Attempted to test a GHA update. Will complete tomorrow after reading docs.
I love video games to death. I really do. This is my lifetime lowest hours in a year. Why? 100 hours in my craft vs 100 hours in a game, which will have a greater impact on my life? The answer is the craft every single time. Coding challenges are my video game now. This doesn't…
I'm no networking expert, but I think the biggest mistake new devs make is not playing the long game. They focus only on what this person can offer me today, instead of building relationships that may vest 6-12+ months down the road.
Today I will be discussing work opportunities…
Day 27 of
#100DaysOfCode
Took a few days off to focus on a prepping for a potential job, so the schedule has been light! Github Action Review on night shift. There was a bug in an update that broke functionality. Time to test the solution! Have something cool for tomorrow!
@loftwah
Python, no contest. The syntax is very close to pseudo code, allowing students to focus more on learning how to think about problems algorithmically, and less on how to write boilerplate code.
Day 18 & 19 of
#100DaysOfCode
Low key grinding on night shift.
Got Dependabot working.......on someone else's fork. But the exact same code on my fork isn't working. Sent my info off to the Dependabot team for feedback. Worst comes to worst, will create another clone with…
@BHolmesDev
Python. Writing support stuff in Python is clutch. Need data from a database written to a CSV? Python. Web scraper? Beautiful soup & Python. Parse a ton of text and write out a file? Python.
#100DaysOfCode
Going to do something different: weekly report on wins/ losses
Wins:
✅ Invited to onboard as a frontend dev on a project
✅ Applied to onboard as a fullstack dev
✅ Backend dev on a project
Losses:
❌ Ghosted hard on a project I was excited about. This 1 hurts
Going to pick up where I left off
Day 22 of
#100DaysOfCode
Coming in clutch last minute with the YAML updates at lunch. Will hopefully squeeze in a GHA review on my next break. Doing Leetcode when I can in my downtime. Form is looking pretty now :).<3 YAML
@nickbryantfyi
@KevinNaughtonJr
This is all satire. The tweet, my comment. I don't own a single Apple product atm & have used Linux in some capacity for 18+ years. I strongly believe everyone's grandma should use Mint or Ubuntu for security reasons & strongly believe people don't need a Mac 2 start programming
Day 34 ish of
#100DaysOfCode
How has the
@bootdotdev
journey been going? Well, I cracked the all-time top 100, became a top ranked member, and got back on the daily scoreboard (could be higher if I played my cards better).Work has been Fast & Furious though!
Day 28 & 29 of
#100DaysOfCode
Many meetings, Devops PR merged, starting my first open source team project with 10 other people , and preparing to onboard to my 1st large open source project as a full stack engineer. Exciting things on the horizon!
@ThePrimeagen
Friendly reminder that PH got nailed a few years ago for content from victims of human trafficking. They chose to exploit trafficked women for years, for profit.
@KevinNaughtonJr
Apple only. Macbook Air's don't count. If you want to be a pro, you need the MacBook with pro in the name. Anything less and you're pretending.
Been a week or so since I have done one of these lol.
Day 35 of
#100DaysOfCode
I achieved my goal of 30 exercises in the Functional Programming module today. My eyes are tired and my brain is mush. Finish it now before it's gone!
#100DaysOfCode
gang
The hardest part of this journey isn't the coding, it's the rejection. Being ghosted when expressing interest in a project. Watching doors close on opportunities. All it takes is one opportunity, but be ready to watch 1000+ doors close on your face.
Day 23 of
#100DaysOfCode
Did my first pull request today! Did it by the book, creating a new branch and pulling the code into my repository. It was fun! Also helped troubleshoot an issue, and then did some coding challenges on . Did a little reduce post…
@ThePrimeagen
@MaxRovensky
Wait, you're one of the best. The Prime Time is like the new Fireship for me. I'll grab some food, sit back, and see what is new in the world of tech. It's great.
Day 7 of
#100DaysOfCode
✅ Merged Prisma update
✅ Merged Dependabot
✅ Studied Postgres
I <3 Mongo to death, but I regret not learning SQL first. Jobs are 20 to 1 for SQL. Everyone uses it & knows it, it's the lingua franca in tech. Pls learn SQL 1st, trust me!
👇
Day 32 of
#100DaysOfCode
Solved a malformed component challenge, and flattened an array 4 different ways. Finishes up with a pull request review. One more night shift left this week.
Day 4 of
#100DaysOfCode
1/2
I fell asleep before I Tweeted, so gonna double up and make a thread!
Grabbed the mic in
@ShawnBasquiat
space. The gems were worth it! Salesforce CTO Sukrutha Bahdouria spoke to my brigade. And let me tell you....
I realized one of my biggest mistakes was not having a plan in place for psychological fatigue. Some nights I'd work till 2am, get up at 5 and work a 12 hour shift. I was working hard, not smart. I'll be back with a
#100daysofcode
update tonight. P.S. I never stopped, just…
@KevinNaughtonJr
I remember you touched on this a few months ago in the comments. It's nice to see you dive deep and explain the challenges you faced in your journey. Sometimes we look at people high on the mountain and forget what they had to go through to get there.
Day 30 of
#100DaysOfCode
Went to the
@torontojs
social bbq (was a ton of fun!), reviewed and tested a few pull requests, and then pulled a new scss issue that I may have the opportunity to resolve with the new range context queries unit. Love watching Dependabot work flawlessly
There's a bodybuilder guy at the shawarma place near my non-tech job, that is out there doing the lord's work. He always smiles, asks how you are doing, and then comes in clutch with the extra protein. Even the portion sizes got a pump! What a legend!
@KevinNaughtonJr
Wait, I thought you said like, not love? JS and I don't have that kind of relationship where we go to the Astro(s). I'm scared how JS may React to my Next move when I grow a Backbone and admit those Ember(s) don't burn bright. I Vue things differently. It's Solid, but the signals…
Day 26 of
#100daysofcode
Working night shift on a holiday, but still getting it in. Decided to reverse a string without built-in methods for interview prep. Going to solve this with recursion next. Then do a pull request review and call it a night. Have a happy long weekend!
I used to study in the training room during my breaks on night shift. Someone got a lock put on to keep me out. No amount of pettiness will stop me from achieving my goals & dreams. This cannot be stopped. Also put in my best day
@bootdotdev
right after. The best has yet 2 come
Day 34 & 35 of
#100DaysOfCode
Planning and prep for this project.
@LDLockhartJr
talks about going wider and becoming an I shaped developer. In my quest, I will be learning Prisma, Nest.JS, and Postgres. Have 0 prior experience.
#buildinpublic
@dimitrov2k
@ThePrimeagen
He's also really good to the Jr devs and small accounts too. I see a lot of people that work at FAANG with 1/10th the following that are too cool for school. How someone behaves when they stand to gain nothing is a real test of character. Prime passes with flying colors. One of…
Rare photo of the misses and I at the
@PostMalone
in Toronto.
In Toronto, come swing by Creed's Coffee bar on Dupont this afternoon if you want to get some coding in. Will be there with the misses and friends!
@MrConerMurphy
I used to be like that until I read Refactoring UI by
@adamwathan
. The cases he made for mobile first from a design perspective, created a paradigm shift for me. I swear, this book is the design bible for developers.
@SimonSamual1
@f1amani
Aston has dramatically improved compared to last year. They're moving in the right direction. Merc has also made improvements to their car. And with less internal politics, and better processes, they will continue to outperform Ferrari late into the season. Merc's more consistent
I work for the biggest paper company in North America. They talk about
#Sustainability
and the
#environment
, and then when nobody is looking, everything goes into the trash compactor. Paper, composte, ink by-product. Meanwhile, we're out here recycling plastic forks & straws.
Day 31 of
#100DaysOfCode
Killing it on night shift. Somehow I made it into the top 4 on while working a 12 hour night shift. I'm absolutely locked in and in the zone today. Drilling OOP and Algorithms in Python. I worked hard for days like this.
#techtwitter
Do not pay someone to "learn" open source. There are plenty of great organizations that will teach you, bit-by-bit. I am a member of one of them. I pay nothing. I just volunteer.
@eddiejaoude
is one of those organizations you can join. Pls avoid the grifters.
@DeanPreston
San Franciscans. I love your fire and your passion for your city. I really hope you can take it back to its former glory one day. And I love how you all unwaveringly fight for your values and city, and aren't scared to call out politicians. Keep up the good fight.
@housecor
People seriously underestimate how damn hard it is to meet a11y standards with vanilla CSS / Sass. There will be lots and lots of tickets to improve all of the weird quirks that are already addressed in the framework.
Sauce: Pulling/ reviewing a11y tickets/ PR's every week.
Day 3 of
#100DaysOfCode
React meetup with
@sandiegojs
, focusing on RSC, and some pair programming discussions with a current software engineer at Amazon. Really look forward to the pair programming. Got tomorrow off, got some cool things on the way 😎.
Day 3 of
#100DaysOfCode
Not much coding today, I was out of the house till 9. But I made some changes to my 2nd PR, should receive approval shortly. And I spent some time helping a new onboard out. It's important as devs that we always pay it forward.
Day 13 of
#100DaysOfCode
In code meetup at the coffee bar. Lots of great discussions, had a fellow dev show me how to test my yml file on my fork. Did some more Rust exercises, but got a nasty headache after. Feeling the effects of shift work atm :(. More to come tomorrow.
Day 11 of
#100DaysOfCode
Slow pace day after putting down a 12 hr shift at work.
✅Mentor night with HackForLA Engineering
✅Submitted a PR to swap TS-Node with TS-Node-Dev.
If you want a server that will automatically restart after every edit, use ts-node-dev, not ts-node!
Day 5 of
#100daysofcode
Pulled my first devops issue. Learning YAML to make a config file. Upgraded from 16-32GB ram, but my ram is bad. So had to go back. Going to do my first PR review and go to bed. Hopefully my RAM return/ RMA goes smoothly tomorrow 🙏.
Day 12 of
#100DaysOfCode
✅ Just a little Postgres today. Tomorrow I'll be guest hosting
@torontojs
Online Code Club . If you're in
#100Devs
or doing
#100DaysOfCode
, or you just want to hang out and code, come drop by 4PM EDT. All skill levels welcome!
It's my favorite little dude's 1 year birthday today. Unfortunately, the weather has been terrible lately. I hope to take him to the dog park and bbq a nice steak for him soon!
#doggo
Here's a picture after we had a morning wrestling match. He's a happy boy!
