September 29, 1976, the day Tommy Lasorda took the helm as manager of the

upon Walter Alston's retirement. When asked by Vin Scully if he felt any pressure replacing Alston, Lasorda responded, "No, Vin, I'm worried about the guy who's gonna replace me.”

October 20, 1988. The
@Dodgers
win the World Series. Kirk Gibson’s home run remains the iconic image, but it was the Herculean effort of
@OrelHershiser
that powered the team. He won the fifth and final game, capping a post-season where he went 3-0, w/ a save, and a 1.05 ERA!
Born on this date in 1927 in Norristown, Pa., Tommy Lasorda led the
@Dodgers
to four NL pennants and two World Series titles while personifying Dodger Blue. Lasorda was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.

Join us in wishing Sandy Koufax a happy 88th birthday!
Koufax debuted for his hometown
@Dodgers
at age 19, but he didn’t reach peak dominance until they’d moved to Los Angeles. From 1961-66, the lefty posted arguably the greatest six-season stretch of pitching ever seen.
Hi everybody. As promised, here’s a quick story about Kirk Gibson’s utterly surprising World Series home run back on October 15, 1988.

OTD (10/28) 1981,
@Dodgers
win the World Series in game 6 against
@Yankees
. Lasorda’s 1st WS as manager was also the last Dodgers/Yankees meeting in the Fall Classic, the most frequent matchup in WS history.
OTD (10/23) 1981, Fernando Valenzuela won his World Series debut with a complete game over the
@Yankees
. While “El Toro” had won rookie of the year and the Cy Young, his gutsy World Series performance helped
@Dodgers
win the ‘81 title, Lasorda’s 1st as a manager.

I found this picture of Tommy and my niece when she worked at Chic fil a in Fullerton… he lived 2 blocks from her and he would go 3-5 days a week
Happy 65th birthday to the great Mike Scioscia. Scioscia managed the Angels for 19 years but he’ll always be a Dodger. He spent his entire 13-year playing career with LA and was a 2-time AS and 2-time WS champ. One of the best ever behind the plate and a Dodger legend.
His pursuit of excellence through hard work, dedication to family, and unbreakable positivity were timeless virtues my father taught and exemplified. We’re excited to share his life and legacy with you all.
Warmly,
Laura Lasorda, and the Tommy Lasorda Legacy team.
Tommy befriended many presidents. Multiple administrations. Both parties. And in this photo with Ron and Nancy Reagan, Tommy shared
@Dodgers
pride with California’s former governor and First Lady.

Happy 75th birthday to the great Steve Garvey. Garvey is one of the biggest heroes to my generation of Dodger fans and a true Dodger legend - NL MVP, 8-time AS, 4-time GG, Roberto Clemente Award, NLCS MVP, and WS champ. Hope he’s having a very well deserved phenomenal day.
Happy 88th birthday to 1998 Ford C. Frick Award winner Jaime Jarrín! The Ecuador native called Dodgers games in Spanish for 64 years before retiring in 2022.

@KurtBevacqua
and baseball’s ‘75 bubble gum blowing champ a very Happy Birthday. For the spicy ‘82 disagreement that forever binds Tommy and Kurt in the annals of sport’s all-time rants…👇
Mike Piazza was drafted dead last in the draft, and it was a favour for Tommy Lasorda. But yet, Ted Williams knew he was going to be great when he was 15. GOATS just know.
On September 27, 2000, Tommy Lasorda celebrated the first Olympics Gold Medal in

history, a remarkable feat in a legendary managing career. A patriot’s journey.👇 1/11
Today in 2003, Eric Gagne is named winner of the NL Cy Young Award. Gagne converted all 55 save opportunities that season and struck out 137 batters in 82.1 IP. It is the 9th Cy Young awarded to a Dodger pitcher and 2nd to a Dodger reliever along with Mike Marshall in 1974.
The remarkable Sandy Koufax was extra special on October 2:
⚾️ 10/2/63- Sets World Series strikeout record with 15 against Yanks
⚾️ 10/2/65- Clinches NL pennant and 26th win at
@Dodgers
stadium
⚾️ 10/2/66- Records 27th win in last-ever regular season game. That year: 1.73era
We’ll pay tribute to his community service, and his impact on countless people as baseball’s beloved global ambassador. We’ll even poke fun at his antics (sorry, Phillie Phanatic).
Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese played in 44 World Series games in his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Every single one of them was against the New York Yankees.
Like Ted Williams, Reese lost 3 full seasons to military service during World War II. Imagine? He may have
Fun facts about Tommy Lasorda
In 1948, Lasorda struck out 25 batters in a 15-inning minor league game which at the time set a pro baseball record
In 1955, the Dodgers optioned Lasorda back to the minors to promote a young pitcher, Sandy Koufax
His good friend, Frank Sinatra,
Happy 142nd birthday to the late, great Branch Rickey. Rickey is the greatest executive in all of sports after revolutionizing baseball more than once - most significantly when he initiated it’s integration. He also built some memorable teams in his 8 years running the Dodgers.
The Dodgers wish to pay tribute to the life and work of Padres owner Peter Seidler. We know his loss will be deeply felt, and we send our most sincere condolences to the Seidler and O'Malley families.
