Today in 1975: Tom Seaver won his third Cy Young award. Led the NL with 22 wins, 243 strikeouts and a 2.38 ERA. When inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992, he received the highest percentage of votes in history: 98.8% (since surpassed by Rivera, Jeter, Ichiro and Griffey Jr.)

If Commissioner Rob Manfred wants to make a serious statement about gambling, he would immediately ban gambling ads in every stadium, program and broadcast of major and minor league baseball. This still won't stop individual players from being tempted. We live in a fallen world.

Born today in 1935: Bob Gibson. Had arguably the best season for a pitcher in 1968. Started 34 games; completed 28 with 13 shutouts. Led the #Cardinals to a pennant, won the MVP and Cy Young. Had an #MLB record for ERA: 1.12. The next year, baseball lowered the pitching mound.
