Update 2024!
I'm thrilled to announce that I've joined the University of Okahoma
@UofOklahoma
on a fully funded scholarship to pursue my PhD in Chemical Engineering, where I'll be researching on next generation catalyst design, focused on renewable energy generation.
Update!
1. Left for Master's before it came, a few SMALL WINS WITH GOD'S HELP!
-First Class Hons. B.Eng. Chemical Engineering
-Best Graduating Student: Faculty of Engineering
-Best Graduating Student: Department of Chemical Engineering
Had to beat imposter syndrome for this🤣
@taadelodun
2/.this was with kerosene lantern. I'm not yet where I plan to be, I just finished my undergraduate degree(about a month ago) with a First Class in Chemical Engineering nd I appreciate her always. I hope to always make her proud by God's grace. She's a rare gem. African parents💯
In another vein, my advice to people still in school: if you ever have plans to study outside Nigeria, make sure you "do too much!"
During my undergrad, I didn't like writing notes in class, I read textbooks (not those written and recommended by our lecturers. The only…
If you’re in Uni and people think you “do too much”, you’re probably high energy, smart, on game and on track. That energy is eventually channeled into something rewarding. With very little—and even explainable—exceptions, I’ve not met one person who had that ‘profile’ back in…

Medication 😭😭. I've been trying to book appointment for three weeks now. Finally got a date on Tuesday. At some point I had to go ask from the pharmacy nearby if I could get some drugs and the pharmacist laughed 😭😭😂😂. Said I have to see the doctor first.
@Egi_nupe_
In most sets, there's always a great number of not-so-academically well to do students who secretly wish that life will be tough for the well to do ones, even via jokes too☺️. Knew a good number of unfortunate beings who said this a lot. Talmabout we employ first class 😂😂.
I left AKS for the first time to Uniport, my eyes saw things in the first few months.
In my 100L, I used to do engine drawing classes and assignments for PG students. I also used to teach close to 15 of my level mates in my hostel room.
One of my course mates found out I was...

1n/ This somhow reminds me of my mum. She's a primary school teacher (retiring soon), when I was young, she'll always put water in a bucket for me to put my feets into while I study. During this period, she'll be drafting her notes of lesson for her classes the next day. Mind you

Received this a while back, it dawned on me that it's tomorrow. Looking back at it, I've always wanted to get this dinner invite from the Vice Chancellor. Might not mean much but it's an assurance of progress. I won't be able to attend but yea, we did that 🥂💪.

Finally, during my 300L to 500L, I did a lot of tutorials in many lecture hall venues. I can't count the number of people that would meet me after the class to confirm that I'm from Akwa Ibom, especially if they saw my first name included on the board.
It's that bad!
@taadelodun
Mhenn, my laptop cable plug broke into my wall socket yesterday and blew up the socket, ahh, see wahala oo, I checked for electricians, was damn expensive. I remembered I did Basic electrical Engineering in Uni, went and bought a new one, isolated power from my flat and fixed it.

Key phrase, "free money here and there." I'm starting mine in January, and I've already won $5K fellowship in addition to my stipend. Will still hunt for more...
from AKS, he confronted me saying "I thought AKS people only knew how to do house boy."
Another one, I have one of my guy, that's still baffled that I'm from AKS, his last message to me recently was 👇

Amen boss, thank you so much.
Btw, I graduated with a fantastic results 😊😊 but I couldn't even tell her since there was no flashy evidence. It's just the beginning of great things and I'm hopeful 💯

More reason why I'm skeptical with activists (people claiming to fight for oppressed people & environmental kini kan). Most na to boost CV and claim awards. There's a wave of young Nigerians identifying as one, all 4 LinkedIn. Peeps I know in real life be clowning on LinkedIn.
@Oludeewon
I'm still in final year tho. But last week, I Contacted my first prof. He's really nice and all. But he's leaving the school in two weeks time. Asked him for suggestions on the next person I should contact. He gladly did. I'm waiting for a reply from there too. But we meouve! 😄

Hope you can read it ... 😊😊🙏
I have more stories, including meeting Nigerians in the UK. But I believe we can do better!
In another vein, I may not like Akpabio but he tried to change the narrative fr!!
Finally left university of Port Harcourt.
2. Also bagged the African and Caribbean Excellence Scholarship Award at
@UofGlasgow
this year to become one of the 10 international Scholars. 🥂🥂. Cheers to better days.

1/ Lol, where I stayed, this woman sells a little shop, before you know, some guys packed into the neighborhood. Shortly, the woman's boys were doing houseboy for these new neighbors and then she persuaded them to train her boys too. I couldn't imagine.
@Wizarab10
Lol... Most people have their price. Some girl I know will always trash talk about hook up girls doing 5k, 10k sex. Whereas her's na expensive trip to nice places and expensive lifestyle funding 😊.
Might be staged but plenty people get price.
Just figure out what their price is
This is coming after successfully completing my Master of Research (MRes.) in Industrial Heterogeneous Catalysis at the University of Glasgow
@UofGlasgow
(a Russel group Uni and top 10 in the UK) under the African and Caribbean Excellence Scholarship as one of 10 scholars.
1. School na scam 😎👀
2. Remember no. 1
3. Study like your life depends on it
4. Pray like you've never studied.
5. Remember no. 3
6. No. 1 & 2 are false. Don't follow naysayers, or you'll lurrnnn the hard way!.
7. Learn one programming language, even though you're not…
@CannonleoGeek
@divergentscout
@Akumneri
You're right. Radioactive waste management has been a thing even for developed countries. Some few years back there was a debate to setup a nuclear plant in Akwa Ibom, it was rejected for one due to our inexperience and anyhowness, by Nigerian politicians...
Another one 😃
300L, me and my guys
@OFubara
@oseghaleelvis
and others went to write federal government scholarship exams on the day of our engineering thermodynamics exams. We came back about an hour and thirty minutes+ into the exam.
I scored 93/100.
Idan moments plenty sha.
@SamdGreat01
@USinNigeria
Interviewed with a prof in the month of May who needed a student to resume by September, did everything and even came out too of his list but guess what??
YEP!! you guessed right. 😭😭😭
He found out the visa wait times and didn't want to risk it.
I missed that opportunity 🥺🥺
@BabaYehgha
One day we'll talk about the ones that come here with "Today I spoke face to face with d holy spirit bla bla..." and d next day " I want to be f**ked like a w**ore bla bla..."
More like taking a break on xtianity 😂. As a xtian, u have very limited freedom to exercise wokeness.
@Gidi_Traffic
@dumkwu_peter
Lol... Black folks always trying to make it outta the hood so that they become superior to others. They'll always broke shame others when they have the slightest opportunity...
@Yehgha
My aunty says this to me "U're a calm person," She prescribes benevolence as a way to vet my potential partner. Anoda is to test n see how they react.
In anoda vein, I'm not married but my eye don see d kind shege, some men dey receive 4rm their wife.
Can't make such mistake
@TheVoiceOfBen
@Johnnydrille
Mannnnn, this feeling mhenn. They don't know how it'll be. I'm so scared of how long they'll have to stay without seeing me physically.
Sadly they don't know yet...
My younger bro will call me to report that my mom is about leaving for church night vigil by 11 PM.
Eskiss me, as per whyyyyyyyyy 😭😭😭, no be only you dey fight satan mbok, go early, sleep at the church before they resume. How can you be moving that late in the night ??😓😓.
There's a reason why "School na scam" is a popular phrase at least within the Nigerian context.
I've been a class topper long enough to know that a good proportion of non-class toppers actually wish life would be tougher for class toppers.
He's just a part...
“The best graduating student of my set - MSc class of 1991 in the University of Ibadan, Usman Oladipo, is languishing as a DGM in one mediocre bank. Although, I’m not better than him…”
Vice President Shettima.
Such demeaning thing to say about someone who did nothing to you.
@AaronAkpuPhilip
1/2 Spot on! A new layer of struggle keeps unlocking. Hence I always believe that success is a cycle of ambition, not necessarily a destination, once a phase is completed, another one opens.
Btw, when I got my first scholarship (chevron), I started fantasizing about scholarships
@emmyiicent
@BabaYehgar
2./ One day this woman asked if I've graduated, I said "in a months time," asked my course of study, I replied, she then told me I should have studied medicine or nothing, that I won't find job. Omo, I understood why she was comfortable with her sons joining these new neighbors🤦
My experience has thought me that research is tough! The disappointments, stress, frustrations, etc. But above all, it's exciting!. I look forward to deploying the skills gained to further my research at
@UofOklahoma
.
I'm optimistic that this phase will be an exciting one.
@TomAbasiofon
The Akwa ibom guy in my class is top a G and so are the many other guys I come across. Experience within a limited scope can be misleading when generally applied.
I haven't applied before from Nigeria but I did from UK and got it. To be honest, it was the nicest interview I've had. We went from querries about me, to me suggesting to the VO, some programming languages her son could start learning for University studies once he's ready.
This person applied for US visa from Nigeria 4 or 5 times and was denied
Same person got a visa to UK, then applied for the same category of US visa from UK, and got it
I've heard/seen multiple stories that follow this pattern. What is the problem?
