A new analysis of archaeological remains finds changes linked to tobacco usage in cortical bone. This metabolic record makes it possible to identify tobacco use in individual remains even without visible markers. @SarahAInskip @TobacHistory

Yesterday, the team visited Kori Filipek at Derby to sample post-med sailors as part of our collaboration to understand past #tobacco use, staining and damage to teeth. Tobacco pipe use, became strongly associated with sailor identity in this period. #archaeology #history
