I'm really more annoyed about the lack of transparency than them catering their models to the masses (rather than power users like myself)

But usage is all opaque. When do Plus subs get basic visibility and controls to manage usage to caps?
Updates to ChatGPT: You can now choose between “Auto”, “Fast”, and “Thinking” for GPT-5. Most users will want Auto, but the additional control will be useful for some people. Rate limits are now 3,000 messages/week with GPT-5 Thinking, and then extra capacity on GPT-5 Thinking

Private companies are now handing the US government a cut of their profits to avoid punitive measures against them while Trump is deploying federal law enforcement on the streets of DC and the media is STILL not ready to call this authoritarianism. Do I have that right?

@tszzl And some of @jeremyphoward's posts on this, like:
PSA: If you say "think deeply" then you get the thinking model in ChatGPT for free. If you click "ChatGPT Thinking", it costs $20/month min to access, and you get limited usages.

OpenAI forgot who actually matters: Power users always lead the culture curve. They set the vibes for a product, especially in consumer software. They are the loudest, most passionate, and have the highest expectations. They are your biggest asset as a consumer company, and you

$500B valuation? Only OAI nukes 8 models overnight, slaps absurd caps on Plus subs, and thinks it’s gonna be well received. Leadership bubble is showing.

If OAI had quietly A/B tested Plus caps for a week, they’d have seen core users burn 200 in hours. Could’ve rolled out with realistic limits and kept other models as fallback. Instead: PR dumpster fire.
GPT-5 rollout updates: *We are going to double GPT-5 rate limits for ChatGPT Plus users as we finish rollout. *We will let Plus users choose to continue to use 4o. We will watch usage as we think about how long to offer legacy models for. *GPT-5 will seem smarter starting

While fascinating, the idea of AI generating every UI on the fly is probably less likely than people think. The benefits of hyper customization likely won’t outweigh having to re-learn an app each time you use it or the risks of things breaking in unexpected ways.
Anyone that has lived through a major redesign knows generating UI on the fly won't be a thing for most products

Lots of conversation on what the future of software looks like in the enterprise. Here’s how I think it plays out. For deterministic workflows where the cost of getting something wrong is high, enterprises will have a tendency to pick core platforms for their most common,

Rolling out limits on Plus subs without giving users visibility and controls to manage to caps is just bad UX. Wiping out prior models overnight (and dialed in AI assistant prompts for all facete of life) is not understanding your users. Static models with choice is key.

We may be seeing the final boss level of what @doctorow has termed #enshittification. Stunning stuff.

Plus if it’s really a daily limit why would waiting a few minutes matter?

Would love for Elon’s fan bois to explain how his genius tweet limiting plan includes no search, no responses, no threads, no bookmarks, no tweet history. And no doubt advertisers over the big July 4th holiday sales weekend are f’n thrilled.

Also massive Twitter exodus today has caused some issues at bluesky. If you have an invite code and can’t login, should be fixed soon. Just overwhelmed the beta app still trying to scale.

So good. Started having this conversation with myself and friends about 3 years ago. Now it’s daily. Do I try to expat and secure safety and sanity or do I have it me to do a 2023 version of 1850s Bleeding Kansas fight and move to a red state to reclaim our country?
"In the back of my mind I'm asking: Am I being a deserter? If I am this distraught and this concerned, do I owe it to my country to do something, or do I owe my child my best efforts to keep him safe?" writes @RichelleCarey.
