Immune checkpoint inhibitors are used to treat many types of cancer, but talking with patients about immunotherapy can be confusing.

Ladies if he:
- is condescending about your methods and results
- Identified a spelling error on page 3 paragraph 2 line 4
- Takes a month to return his reviews
- Requests you cite his most recent paper
He’s not your man, he’s reviewer 2.

So excited to announce I’ll be returning to
@UTSWNews
@UTSWHemeOnc
@utswcancer
this July where I’ll be seeing patients with GI cancers, conducting research, and assisting with the fellowship program.
After 5 years (3 for residency, 1 as
@UTSWIMchief
, 1 as faculty) my chapter
@UTSWNews
is coming to an end for now. Tomorrow, I’ll wake up and start my next journey in hematology & oncology

Excited to present our poster evaluating the efficacy and safety of the addition of SBRT to atezolizumab and bevacizumab in advanced HCC at
#GI24
. Thanks to
@Salthecancerguy
for the 📸
Went back and forth on writing anything for a few days. Would rather be on the right side than silent.
1) the trainees are watching/following
2) most of us won’t say anything, for the same reasons the victims didn’t
3) Indiv and inst-level response & culture change needed

. Grateful to my mentors Drs Yang, Karasic, Gimotty, and
@Ron_cology
and support from
@PennCancer
and Penn CCEB. Time to get to work investigating factors affecting HCC outcomes
The “gas tank” or resilience of the medical workforce has never really been questioned before. Sure, individual cases of burnout certainly exist. But what we are about to witness is a profession-wide wave of burnout and its effects may last years or decades if unmitigated.
So happy to have run into this legendary Chair of Medicine today,
@dhjutsw1
. Your mentorship and support is something I will cherish for the remainder of my career. Thank you for all you’ve done (and showing us how to do it the right way). Looking forward to the future!
Excited to be back for a second year as a Featured Voice for
#GI24
and looking forward to connecting with friends & colleagues. Follow along for my takes on the latest GI Onc research and stick around after the meeting for periodic

I miss Parkland.
I miss her sunrises from the 17th floor, the fireworks from the helipad.
I miss rushing a patient to her theatre. The staff opening instruments while we wheel.
I miss laughing with friends in her hidden chambers, call night family dinners between cases.
Surgical mask was causing discomfort and breakdown behind my ears, making adherence a problem. Solution- wife sewed some buttons on a headband. So much better.
Last thought from a junior standpoint- if speaking up/out about this story hurts career opps in the future, maybe it’s not something I should be chasing anyways. Values matter
On the heels of important work from our

Out now in The Cancer Journal: The Journal of Principles & Practice of Oncology- my first (and hopefully not last) paper with the wonderful

First month of chief fellow down, full of great learning opportunities, the rewarding experience of onboarding new fellows, and curriculum development. Grateful for an awesome co chief, supportive leadership, and amazing faculty

There is no rational argument for not paying housestaff at least $100k. ESP not while NP/PA with a fraction of the education/debt/responsibility make more than that straight out of school
It took a whole year but our entire fellowship class was finally able to get together…. Without any phone coverage or pandemic worries!

COSMIC-312 has now reported out in
@TheLancetOncol
, comparing cabo/atezo to sorafenib in HCC. Cabo/atezo failed to improve OS compared to sorafenib, which had a median OS of 15.5 months, whatttttt? (short 🧵)
Some people hate the Valley of Despair when writing. That period of time when you question everything and can’t stand to look at the paper. Keep pushing, greatness lies ahead. Let’s freakin crush it today.
Out now (eh a few days ago) in JCRCO – part of my thesis

Welcome to headband 2.0. Several upgrades: second button to keep mask earloop completely off ear, darker blue to match scrubs, brighter buttons so purpose is more obvious to pts. Swoosh is only for looks though
Great memory today from my iPhone. I believe this was the last day of

analysis of the Flatiron database; for years I have questioned the risk/benefit of 5FU bolus in mCRC -- favoring its omission as I discerned heightened toxicity -- and this seems to corroborate the LACK of improved survival

This is probably the most misleading a story title could be without being a lie. Story is about midazolam for patients on ventilators. It could certainly be worded better than this

Fell on the ice outside my house today. That moment of self-reflection that occurs while you’re laying on the ice after a fall re-evaluating your life choices is unmatched.
Our latest in AJCO. Nothing new here, but just solidifying years of data that neutropenia diets don’t accomplish what they’re supposed to accomplish. Stop doing them.
Durvalumab and tremelimumab now approved by
