In the paper, we discuss some of the reasons that might be driving these results. 5/6

We rule out that our null effects are driven by too narrow time horizons, conflating different political contexts, conflating different types of weather events, or spillover effects. They also hold when applying a more restrictive dictionary approach. 4/6

We combine supervised learning algorithms with a difference-in-differences design on over 260,000 press releases by European national parties in 9 countries. 3/6

There is often an assumption that extreme weather events, their frequency and severity will be a wake-up call for attention and policy on the environment. We test whether that’s the case for political speech. 2/6
