Bankrupt Birmingham Council has wasted millions on advisors, recruitment services , lawyers and marketing whilst the people of Birmingham have faced huge council tax rises and a lot of cuts. Totally unacceptable . It’s time for the current leadership to be voted OUT

@JakeBenRichards I’m a barrister. My first jury trial of 2026 is not taking place on Monday because of a lack of court. Yet more than 30 courts locally sit unused on Monday due to funding cuts. This is what caused the backlog – not jury trials.

As a young lawyer it’s made me think about whether our system works. With the rise of the CPS and the powers of non jury trials rising I think the time is coming for a public defenders service because the imbalance between the state and public liberty is bigger then ever before

The met seems to have given up on policing London and instead wants to argue with the Freemasons . Bonkers
We will robustly defend our decision to require officers and staff to declare if they are Freemasons. Our response to the decision by the Grand Lodge of England to seek an injunction blocking the implementation of the policy is below.

“The social media history that has emerged from Alaa abd El-Fattah is of profound concern... The cross-party campaign for such a person, and the warm welcome issued by the Government, demonstrate a broken system with an astonishing lack of due diligence by the authorities.”

We are appalled by the effusive welcome Alaa Abd El-Fattah has received from the UK government. The Prime Minister recently reiterated his determination to root out antisemitism from our country but has now shared his delight that someone who has advocated for killing Zionists
I’m delighted that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in the UK and has been reunited with his loved ones, who must be feeling profound relief. I want to pay tribute to Alaa’s family, and to all those that have worked and campaigned for this moment. Alaa's case has been a top priority
